Mine started doing the noise two days ago as well as the oil light would flash when I braked.Unfortunately I been driving it since, I contacted the dealerand told them about what its doing, they said they would look at it on friday. My question is I have a kenetix upper plenum on, but I got rid of the stock one months back,do you think they will use the plenum as an excuse?By the way it has 45k miles on it. Thanks for the help.

Sucks Hexx. I was without my baby for a month. I got it back the wednesday before TG and the car was throwing CEL's all day right up until about 630PM that wednesday night when I finally got the car back. No problems yet. Although I havent been checking my oil like I should be... Ive got almost 10K on the new engine since then and no problems yet.

went to the dealer today, the guy just told me to change the oil and bring it back every 1000 miles to check how much its burning, also to bring all the records of the last oil changes and maintnance records. He also mentioned that they had two other coupes that had the same problem, and he said that pretty much its just the coupes with 6spd transmissions. I just hope they dont say anything about the plenum.

I was actually going to get a 06 G35 coupe 6mt, but after reading all of these posts, I am a little worried. For the people who got their engine replaced, what is the garuntee that this type of problem won't happen again? Should I still get one, or just go with the bmw m3? (i hate the look of the m3). If i purchase the car in a different state from where i live, can i take it into my home dealership of this problem occurs? If knowing what you know now, would you have still bought the car?

Likewise. I'm also in the market for G (preferably 07 or 08), but after reading these posts this is FREAKING SCARY. Covered under warranty or not, having to replace an engine is the LAST thing a consumer should have to worry about, particularly on a luxury-sport vehicle.
- Is there any reason why it appears more prominent on 6MT's? Is it the way you guys drive your cars (e.g. redline it often?)
- Has any info been provided as to how this problem is being resolved in the new replacement engines (assuming what they're shipping out remedies the oil consumption?)

The 05-06-07 6mt's are the higher hp VQ engines (aka rev-up VQ's), which seem more prone to this issue. 07 sedan on the other hand, has the new generation VQ. Something like 80% all new engine design, with even more hp than our rev-up VQ's. I haven't heard any oil consumption issues with those yet, but I don't go to those sections here on Driver to know if there have been any reports of such.

Sadness...
I'll be taking my G into the dealer in the next week or so to start the oil consumption testing (currently burning about a quart every 500 miles). I just had the transmission replaced a week ago. I've only got about 21 months left on the powertrain warranty and will almost certainly be selling my car before then. I don't want to be stuck with costly engine or transmission repairs after the warranty is expired.
It's a bummer because I've dumped about 8K worth of upgrades into a car I planned on having for at least another five years. Looks like I'll be a BMW or Audi man next. Infiniti's been great so far, but I can't risk the cost of these repairs down the road.
