Yeah, it's amazing that this problem is still going on. Good to hear that your V2 is running well. I just did my oil change a couple of weeks ago and all looks pretty good. I am now running Motul fully synthetic oil on my G. So far I'm really liking it.

PLEASE LISTEN: G35 OIL RINGS are covered by Nissan Motor Group emissions warranty for the first 70k miles REGARDLESS of OWNERSHIP!

Update from my 5-4-09 post. I had an oil change at Frontier Infiniti here in San Jose, CA 1,000 miles ago and started the Consumption test. Yesterday, took it in for a check and oil was at 10mm where it should have been at 7mm so I get a new engine on Monday.
They were real easy with the process, said they would respect my mods and be careful removing and replacing my Sways, pop charger and Z-tube and said when they remove my wheels they won't damage them. I asked it they could install a G37 motor and I would pay the difference and they said, No on that one
Then I went to 'Z Car Garage' the local awesome tuner shop here in SJ and talked with Rob the owner about what to do next.
So, I decided to upgrade the new motor with a Vortech V-3 Supercharger, CAI and headers and possibly a Stoptech BBK on all four corners.
The whole process went real smooth, sorry to read that there are just so many other dealers that are real axxholes.
Good luck you guys..

EASY Money!

By Federal law: Any vehicle purchased at a dealership in the US, be it new or used, must honor a 70k mile emissions warranty! It is the Federal law! Hence forth, your vehicle is spending unnecessary oil vapors to the Catalyst system...you are covered. You should note there are multiple lawsuits Nissan's presently facing regarding this issue!

After a little research and a call to Pat Goss (automotive guru and host of Goss’s Garage on 106.7 JFK) I found out that a percentage of our cars have problems with their piston rings. He told me that Nissan refuses to admit the problem and that I should be looking for a new engine.

At least I have only 15,000 miles and the warranty should apply. Let’s hope that Infiniti owns up to this problem and does not give me any s$#* for the MREV. There may be some of you out there with the same problem who (like me) can’t get a good reading because of that damn dipstick. Make sure you get this problem on record before your warranty period runs out.

6MT Coupe
70K mi is same as powertrain warranty. What about how many years with emission warranty or does years pertain to that coverage. It does with powertrain 6yrs/70K mi, whichever comes 'first'.

Getting my OC test done this Saturday at 1,000 miles. Should I come in a few miles short (say 995 miles), since the OC chart of acceptable mm readings jumps at 1,000 miles?

Is there anything I should ask the mechanic at Infinity in Kirkland if the OC is found "acceptable"? Should I have it topped off, re-sealed, and try again at a higher mileage? Or, just live with it awhile and see if Royal Purple helps it? I purchased the 2005 G35 at 40,000 miles, and is now at 43,000 miles.

I am not boasting,(or trying not too),but this is important for you guys to know. I am a high grade drive-ability and diagnostic automotive specialist with more than 35 years of personal experience.

That aside, I just bought (10/08) my, '04 G35 Coupe @ 50kmi, found this site, the available modifications for the G/Zs, and a world of toys. I got much more than expected...and love it and the G/Zs with the (VQ35DE) power plants.

I now have about 59.5mi, and like most of you I am presently experiencing excessive oil consumption. I went for the beginning of my OC test @ 59.3Kmi last week. The results will be positive! Why?

When you experience excessive oil consumption you should note the approximate oil consumptions between the recommended oil service schedules at 3,750mi intervals. ANY oil consumption of more than one quart per change interval REQUIRES FURTHER INSPECTION. Any oil consumption of more than 7mm (from perfect full mark on dipstick) /per 1000 miles may require engine replacement, vehicle repurchase, or cash settlement.

The first thing you should do is: Make sure the engine has no oil leaks / Have the vehicles PCV system inspected by a professionally licensed mechanic, other than Nissan. (Make sure you are using a Nissan OE, or OE approved oil filter.) Check your oil consumption as above, remove spark plugs and inspect for oil residues. If possible, using a cylinder bore scope, check ALL cylinder walls for oil blow-by. If any blow-by is detected using the bore scope, and, the same cylinders spark plug shows heavy oil residue ... then the rings REQUIRE replacement.

IF you purchased your vehicle from an Infinity Dealer it is covered by a 6ry/70kmi Emissions and Drivetrain warranty. However since you are covered by an extended emissions warranty you may still be eligible if you have exceeded EITHER YEARS OR MILES terms (due to extensive repair requirements recently reported to Nissan Motor Corp). Treating this situation with more honey than vinegar will get you further with Nissan's excellent service departments!

Legal assistance is readily available if necessary:

GUY'S PLEASE!, this is a situation that a lot people may try to take advantage of, PLEASE DON'T DO THIS.

My g35 used all of its oil last year in 4 months. I had just purchased it used and was shocked when I discovered the engine was bone dry. I put a whole jug of Mobil in it last Sept and drove it another two months. Parked it for the winter.
This Spring I took it to a Nissan dealer and told them to change the oil. I informed them I had on OC burner and that I want them to check the oil level before they change it. They told me it was slightly overfilled before the oil change. What a bunch of lying c*cksuckers! I was slightly under the warranty at the time but I said fawk it. The closest Infiniti Dealer was over 400km away. Didn't want to fight them and deal with the stress. The point is they know about this issue and they should replace these engines regardless of mileage. One surefire test to spot an OC is too run your finger in one of the tail pipes, it should be greasy *** fawk! Coated with oil. The chincy fawkers. I would kill all the upper management at Infiniti if I could. Cawksuckers!

Picked my car from Frontier Infiniti, here in San Jose, CA.
- no problem, no additional charges for reinstallation of my mods, just a $5 charge for the courtesy car for 3 days use.
So, I guess this ends my OC engine issues... Went rather smooth, no loud screaming or drama.
Best suggestion I can offer is not to go into the dealer all worked up. Do your
Due Diligence, take your documentation let them see that you're educated about the problems and solutions.
Tons of good information here, so use it to your advantage.
IMHO

yea-no. There are a few posts like this which is not my experience. 1 quart in 5k miles is NOT good at all.

I have had Hondas, Toyotas, a Lexus, and Nissans. Recently (last week) a G35 coupe. I'll keep an eye on the oil after reading this thread.

For example: Lexus IS300 84,000 miles. Never added oil between changes. Never burned enough to add more than an oz or two. Even after running an oil feed line for the turbo.

RESULTS ARE IN. Infiniti of Kirkland, WA said I was down only 5mm in 1,000 miles (actually, 970 miles), and that it needs to be 9mm to "fail". The service agent says all engines burn a little oil, and my engine was not close to what the problem engines experience. And, he says, its very dramatic at 1,000 miles on those engines.

Should I feel good about these results?

Just got back from Infiniti...after a little less than 1000 miles I was down 9mm. New engine has been ordered...of course pending final approval from Infiniti. 55k miles on the car, and I get a new engine!

Hey guys, I'm looking at buying an 05 with 43k on it. Should I be really concerned about this issue? Should I be able to notice anything when test driving? Is the warranty still on the car at this point or no?
