Makes sense but I've read many non-revup VQ's going South...like shilohap above. 2005-2007 5AT's have the non-revup VQ's btw like all 2003-2004's. TSB for revup's will get you a fresh replacement longblock if it qualifies, which is not a bad deal if you think about it.

There are revups which never had or have OC. https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-cou...iles-year.html
I know two revup owners personally which never had OC since day one new they bought theirs and still don't. Go figure.

Good advise from shilohap above with checking tail pipe tips. And you keeping an eye on your oil level is about all you can do. Running a cleaner in your fuel once in a while never hurts things either.

I hate the fact that the thread of members that do NOT burn oil is about 4 pages long...while the threads abouting burning oil and having to have motors replaced total over 100 pages...wtf....so if the ratio is 4:100 that means when buying a car with the rev up motor...you have a 1 in 25 chance of getting a car that won't burn oil. lol....

I didn't really understand the explanation something about the piston heads being slightly textured and actually breaking down and using oil. (I could have gotten this wrong, dont quote me!!) So last week at 1600 I checked the oil in the morning before work and sure enough it was a little more than 1/2 qt low. I added 1/2 quart and will take it in right at 3000 miles for the first oil change. I was also told not to bother with the synthetic oil since your constantly adding oil it would just be a waste of money. I will be keeping track of how much I add and the dates just in case something happens. It really is a pain!

my car is usually good driving around town but driving on turnpike at 71mph...I used 12 oz over 300 miles...I will be watching this carefully

Two quarts added between first 3780mi and second 7700mi. oil change with the last of those quarts disappearing in 1200mi.
Dealer told me today that it's acceptable consumption 1 quart/1000mi. per Nissan and will not do anything warranty wise untill that consumption threashold is exceeded.
Nice....$40K vehicle that uses a quart/1000mi.
That BLOWS!!!

Least got my dealer to note on their computer my consumption so it's at least documented and I have paperwork stating such. ('customer has to put a qt of oil every 1,000 miles') Guess I'll bring it in everytime it's a quart low so they can document the useage and see when it uses a quart under 1000mi. What a PITA.
At this rate, cuz it's getting worse (and I don't drive it like I stole it very often) I'll be yelling for a new engine before I hit 10K.
Guess I should call Infiniti Corp C.S. too so it's documented with them as well. Plus another rev-up VQ35DE owner with this problem for their documentation.

Oh...as far as mods go with this problem, dealer or Infiniti has to prove first that the mod caused this condition or failure, otherwise they can't deny your warranty. It's called the 'Magnuson-Moss Act'... look here ---> http://www.enjoythedrive.com/content/?ID=8124 see attatchment 'A' at bottom of site page. That's the Mag-Moss Act.
BUT...the MREV is for off-road usage only, so IDK about that one.

Good luck everyone with this problem...think we're gonna need it.
you seem to be getting approx. 2000 per qt....not bad at all

greasy is definitely a problem....if it were mine I would put a qt of Rislone in it and drive it 200 miles and then to regular...sometimes carbon causes the oil scraper ring to bind in piston groove and it no longer scrapes excess oil off of walls. worked for me

I'm convinced my replacement's heads were built on a hung-over Monday. These are supposed to have revised valve guide seals along with correct spec'd rings. I'm the only one I've found so far with my current issue in the valvetrain. My original heads were much better than what was given to me on replacement. Replacement's bottom-end and rings are solid on mine.
thats almost as bad as buying a Ford built on Monday that has coke bottles inside door panels.

try to ascertain what weight oil it has in it now...and then watch it carefully, most people put too light of an oil in their car.

where you really damage a engine when its approx 3 qts down and you rev it to 6600rpm.....the acceleration causes what little oil you have to get sloshed to back of oil pan uncovering the oil pick up.....running dry con. rods can go in just seconds...

I'm almost at my 70k mark and they said my oil was only 19mm low or something so my engine is "fine".
when driving in cold climates, lots of idling and slow driving can build up a lot of condensation raising your oil level...and then the first time you drive for long distance at higher speeds the water in your oil burns off leaving you with ADD

that is good advice for everyone,,check your oil level weekly if not every 500 milrd.

If your car is still under warranty, go to the Infinity dealership and ask them to install a new engine. I got mine put in for free 5500 miles ago. There is a small % of people with this problem. IT IS COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. A small percentage of the 06 models with manual transmission only have this oil burning problem. My guess is that the piston rings are defective and because if that some oil gets into the combustion chamber and burns off. I hope this helped. Good Luck.
