Well I am getting my hands on a mazda key fob. Couple questions:

What did you guys cut the board with? Dremel?

Also are there any simple instructions for opening the G35 fob? I don't wanna break anything in the process.

Finally did you guys figure out the solution to the antenna range? How bad is it if you don't add in any wire?

Thanks alot. I will be taking pictures as I do. Hopefully fob will show up next week!!!

I used a dremel to cut the board in half, you first have to desolder the battery terminal before you cut the board. As far as opening the g35 fob, it justs pops open with a little pressure. Still haven't gotten the range that far, it's like 5-10 feet without the proper antenna.

Hmm there are few enough parts on the Nissan PCB that it may be worthwhile to make a new PCB designed specifically for using the Nissan parts in the Mazda FOB. You would just transfer over the parts from the Nissan and Mazda boards as needed, possibily sourcing the generic components separately so you only need to transfer the special keyed components. Hmm.

That would be great if we could get a board custom made. The hard part would be acutally removing the key components from the original board.

All of the analog components could be sourced without too much trouble, so all you'd have to swap over would be IC1, XTAL1, and maybe TR1. Then again the Infiniti FOB doesn't really seem that bad.

so i measured the original key fob antenna, it's about 2 3/4 inches long. my original was about 2inches. so the distance is better by a tab bit. only a couple feet more maybe. i'm ok with the range, wish it could be longer, but it's cool. maybe the wire i'm using isn't the right type. it's basically a normal insulated wire (silver color conductor, but i doubt it's actual silver). same wire i used to attach the micro switches.

as for the l.e.d., i was gonna do it but i got lazy...hahaha

the wire was too thick to do that. i had the wire all on the battery side of the board. just made some circular twists around the negative contact and stuffed it in the battery compartment. that might be part of the problem with the range. if i could somehow keep the wire in a straight loop, i think that could extend the range? i tried pointing the remote at the car at different angles and sides to see if it helped, sometimes it did..so who knows. i ain't no electrical engineer. METH..WHERE ARE U?!?!?! WE NEED UR EXPERTISE..hahaha.

ok..so i made the antenna wire the length of the original antenna (2 3/4").
i made sure like M3th said not to coil it over itself...and i got a lot better distance now. maybe 15-20ft. i'm satisfied. =)
