But really, its a horrible idea and no one will make them. One rock and they're smashed. Plastic is easy to restore, but don't use toothpaste. You need something more abrasive and you also need a UV resistant protective coating on after or you'll be seeing haze and yellow in months. HID burners give off UV radiation, especially if you have ricey aftermarket purple/blue bulbs.
The 3M kit works great, I've used it on lights that were 12 years old and they came out perfect. The reason they switched from glass to plastic was not for cost, that's just an added benefit for the manufacturers.
