Your half way correct. The V35 (g35) has everything to do with a SKYLINE because it is a skyline, and yes it has nothing to do with a GTR because there is no GTR trim package available for the V35. For example, just as there was a R32, R33 and R34 skyline with GTR trims available, there is a V35, V36 and V37 skyline with no available GTR trim package. Regardless it is a skyline nonetheless!

Well, actually, if you have a vortech and running 6lbs if boost on stock internals, that is a bit ricer. If you have a built block running 15-20lbs, more power to you. But I digress.
The issue with the skyline is a thing we call 'heritage'. Just because you give a car a name that was previously used to represent a completely different platform does not mean you get to reap (or rape in most ricers case) the benefits of being hailed as the previous platform.
Case in point: the dodge dart. The new dodge dart has absolutely no relation to the line of dodge darts from the 60s and 70s. In fact, if someone tried to put a 'Swinger' (dart's coupe v8 model) badge on a new dart in an attempt to rape the heritage of the original dart, they would be deserving of a swift kick in the a$$. And they would get that kick by every mopar guy with whom they crossed paths.

No one intelligent is saying that this isn't a skyline since technically skyline is just a name they give to whatever car they decide should be a skyline, but the v35 is a skyline the way mid 90's impala SS's are Impala SS's. they have the name, they're kinda sporty and fun for what they are, but they are so far from the Impalas from the 60's and early 70's that one would say that it isn't a true Impala SS. same thing with the v35 and the r32-r34.
