Exclamation Hyundai has a "G35-killer" coming?!

Reading through my latest issue of Motor trend [November 2006] on page 28 I read something very odd,
...Hyundai's forthcoming rear-drive coupe will target the Infiniti G35. Expected next year as a 2008 model, the coupe will be a companion to a rear-drive sport sedan expected by the 2009 model year. But while we've [Motor Trend] described the sport sedan as a 'poor man's BMW,' the 2008 coupe has been viewed as more of a G35-killer, which is to say, a competative car at a typically lower Hyundai price, it's premium powerplant will be a turbocharged V6, although the engine compartment does have room for a V-8.
I haven't been able to find any pics or other info on this "G35-killer" as of yet but, I'm curious as to what you guys have to say about such news. And about Hyundai targeting our G35s!!

I think it's a good thing when automakers target other marques. It means the G35 is a car that is doing well. It can be considered a benchmark. It means they will try but only come close.

Ok, that part I didn't know. The Motor Trend snippet said nothing about that. I thought they were expanding to have the fwd Tibby and this new rwd coupe to "compete" with the G. Now I'm definately gonna have to go looking for more info. Didn't know the Tibby was going rwd.

Wasn't the Bimmer the benchmark when Lexus and Infiniti were trying to gun it down with the IS300 and the G35?

With Hyundai's recent string of successful redesigns, we're patiently awaiting to learn what the next incarnation of its Tiburon coupe will be like when it debuts in 2008... make that 2009... actually, make that never, as Motor Trend is reporting the Tiburon will be phased out then to make room for a new rear-wheel drive "poor man's BMW" sport sedan arriving in 2008. The sport sedan will spawn a coupe and convertible in 2009 that will replace the current Tiburon that's been on the market since 2003.

This is what Hyundai plans for their 2009 "coupe". Apparently they took the 2008 Tiburon body styling and made this. The one in the pic has 4 doors, I guess they'll make a 2 door too?
