oh no not again... LOL
I see you're a newbie so I'll cut you some slack on this one... It's just that this topic has been a source of heated debate on this board.. I would try a search, but on average i've seen there is about a 0.2 to 0.3 second difference in 1/4 mile times.

haha don't worry about .2-3 sec difference... difference is too minimal it's totally up to driver of 6spd and even 6spd gets perfect luanching and shifting if you get better reaction time 6spd won't be able to beat you... "flamesuit on" and those differences are from the track w/ very talented drivers... on the street, i bet my g (j/k) AT g will beat MT g 6 out of 10 times on the streets...

This has been asserted many times, and I'd agree that an unskilled G35 6MT driver could lose to a 5AT. But launching and shifting a 6MT is not exactly rocket science, and the 5AT driver will have to know how to torque brake and manually shift the AT properly to get the best times as well. With a litttle practice almost any 6MT owner should be able to win over a 5AT. If not, then we're talking about a driver who has no business getting into a race in the first place.
I'd also be quite surprised to see a differential of as little as .2 seconds between the MT and AT versions in the hands of the same, skilled driver. I'd expect more like .4 -.5 difference, quite possibly more. Unfortunately, there are no such tests I know of (does anyone?), so we're left to compare one test setup with a 6MT to another with a 5AT. Car & Driver seems to have recorded the fastest 6MT time (5.5 sec to 60), and IIRC the fastest 5AT time anyone has published was at at least 6 sec. Still apples and oranges though, so who knows for sure.
It's worth noting that a half second is quite a bit of distance at 60 MPH though. Here's some math to ponder:
60 MPH = 1 mile (5280 ft) in one minute
5280/60 seconds = 88 ft/sec
.5 seconds at 60 MPH = 44 ft
G35C = 182 in (15 ft 2 in)
So a .5 second differential at 60 would mean that the 6MT gained about 3 car lengths within 5.5 seconds. Hardly close I'd say. Even if the difference is as little as .25 seconds (unlikely IMHO) the 6MT is still ahead by a length and a half in under six seconds.
Not so close after all when it's visualized...

Re: how much slower is a auto vs a 6spd g35?
!!!! Thus the reason why you see the gap shorten in 1/4 mile times vs. 0-60 because 1/4 mile times is strictly dealing with distance and 0-60 is dealing with how fast a car gets to a certain speed !!!!!!!
I'll put it to you this way:
The AT launches quicker ... the MT eventually catches up to it and beats it in a 1/4 mile.
