what i don't get is, people with automatics saying they didn't get the 6mt because of "traffic"...

i have spoken to all my friends who drive cars with manual transmission, and guess what none of them are complaining about traffic.

i drive a 6mt, i work in Orange County (bad drivers and bad traffic) and i'm not even complaining about traffic.. when it comes down to it, everything is done automatically. its not that hard or complicated. u just need to get use to driving a manual car.

its really easy and not that hard.. i don't even think about it when stuck in traffic. its all "automatic" to me.. step clutch, shift to 1st step on gas and release clutch slowly... its not that hard people.

i think the people complaining just cant drive a manual car period.. so they bought an automatic... later on, they regret it and trade their automatics for the manual..

I never herd of any one trading their 6mt G for a automatic G. I've have seen a lot of automatic G owners wanted to get a 6mt.

The only time I would get an automatic if i needed a 4dr family car. but if i were to get a new sports coupe, it would have to be manual transmission. the "sports shifter or manual shift mode" isn't working for me.. its kinda useless actually. Ive tried it on my 07 sedan loaner car, and was laughing at how it works. hahaha.

Ok, it may be "automatic" to you, but when you're in stop-and-go traffic for an hour, your left foot starts to hurt and you wear out the clutch more.

If you ask me, I'll take an automatic in stop-and-go traffic anyday. Just gas and brake; so comfortable.

u sure? because with an automatic, in a 1 hr traffic, ur left leg will start to cramp the *** up because its not moving.. plus, ur working ur right leg on the gas and on the brake...

i use to drive an automatic, and being stuf in traffic with an automatic was much more worse to me personally.

you can tell who drives an automatic when ur stuck in traffic. they're the one cussing and flicking people off.

manual drivers are usually more relaxed.

I do not regret the 6MT at all. If I were to buy an M3, I would greatly consider the SMG option though.

Never.
I had the automatic in my 05x and regretted that. Thankfully, I came to my senses and I'm driving a 6 speed now.

Take into consideration the audience of this forum. If you look at the "Age Thread" you will see that about 80% of the forum is 18-28 years old, many of which have the boy racer / fast and the furious mentality. The 5AT is just as fast in most instances because the majority of people with the 6MT simply can't drive. If you bought your G as a luxury cruiser get the 5AT. If you think you need more control get the 6MT. It really is that simple. 5AT doesn't make your car any less of a G, nor does 6MT suddenly turn it into a super car. Automatic transmissions should not have the same stigma they did 10 years ago. It's not uncommon to find automatic transmissions with 5-7 gears, whereas in the past they had 3 gears, 4 if you were lucky. More and more exotics have a faster 0-60 in automatic trim.

To all the 5AT drivers that "regret" getting automatic, why do you regret it? Because of your peers on this forum?

its not all about racing, or anything that you are saying.. a sports car really isn't a sports car unless its a manual transmission. and besides. manual cars a lot more fun to drive then automatics. you also get better gas mileage.

theres a reason why the 6mt coupe comes with a little more HP then the auto.

It's hard to pick your nose when you drive a stick.

I also don't regret it. Like some people here I'm stuck in traffic every day, and you don't really play with the gears all that much, as the auto people think. I try to leave a little more space in front and while all the people around me gas and brake, I just pop it in 1st or 2nd and the car just rolls and slows down by itself as soon as I let off the gas.
And probably cause I rarely drive automatic, I hate when I get the loaner and have to drive in traffic, it hurts my right leg cause I need to constantly apply the brake.

6MT vs 5AT...........!

This is the first time my wife and I both have cars with auto transmissions. I
went thru the '94 earthquake recovery with my '92 300ZXTT and engaging
the clutch a zillion times just to get home inch by inch got very old. My
brakes did last 117K miles and the clutch 123K miles and was only replaced
due to my rear main seal leaking......WTF I'm good! HAHA My next car will
be a MT because I do miss engaging that pedal on the left side.
