You can compare numbers all day.. I never said anything about their numbers on paper. The fact is the Z and M3 are more performance orientated, marketed as sports cars. I know I speak for the majority here that the G35 is an entry level luxury sports coupe. It is NOT classified as a "sports car".

motortrend
marketed is the key word here
if the word skyline was on it, then it would be a sports car..lol
and dont get me wrong, I am not talking highly of the G here, I am saying its too close to the performance of many past sports cars to not be considered one
too many older cars that were "marketed" as sports cars have performace that is way too similar or worse then the G. C4 corvette, 300zx 2+2 was a cow, miatas are super slow as are MR2s, the CR-Z is a sports hybrid rofl, the maxima is a 4DSC(if anything is a 4DSC its the G sedan or some BMW sedan, certainly not the maxima), pontiac solstice/saturn sky?, NA Supra, and even the TT supra stock for stock isnt all that impressive, e36 m3 etc

One would think a 50lb weight difference is significant but in fact, it ISN'T. Not in a car that has close to 300 crank hp. With our cars, anything less than a 100lb difference isn't really that significant. That can be made up in driver weight and the amount of fuel in the tank. If you have a fat driver in the Z and a skinny driver in a G, the weight difference goes out the door in a straight line. I'm sorry if people disagree with me, but a 50lb weight difference does not make your car significantly "faster" in a straight line.
As for track numbers, they are like dyno's. You can't really compare 0-60, 1/4 mile numbers, etc unless it is done on the same track on the same day IMHO. If test "A" is done in 100 degree heat with a 3000 ft elevation and test "B" is done in cool weather at sea level, the numbers will be significantly different. One thing magazines don't post is the DA (Density Altitude).
