Mazda Rx-8 vs G 35C

Mazda Rx-8 vs G 35C
I have been considering the G35c, but recently saw an article comparing the G35c with the Rx-8 in Car and Driver. The Rx-8 came in 1st place, while the G35c placed 2nd. Now I'm thinking about getting the Rx-8 instead of the G35c.
Like to know if anyone has compared these 2 vehicles.

Re: Mazda Rx-8 vs G 35C
I checked out the RX-8 when I was on business in California (I am from Montreal, Canada where cars like these are very limited). Anyhow, my conclusion is simple. The RX-8 has a little more of a sporty look, but has less class and luxury. The interior finishing is simple, but what surprised me was the back seats. You would think that the extra half door in the back would add to the convenience factor, but it is still damn hard to get in back there, and then once you're in, the front passengers have no leg room. I find that it is less of a 4 seater than the G35coupe.
It does however have a pretty decent trunk, although it seems smaller on the outside. It is a tough decision. It has less HP, but is also lighter. The way I would describe the decision making process is simple. If you are 2-4 young guys looking to have some fun, show off, or turn up at several sport compact cars shows, then the RX-8 is for you. If you want to have your wife or family seated comfortably, and have this car as a daily driver, grocery getter, and have the power to boot, plus be able to take it to those classy wedding/anniversary/family BBQ invitations, then the G35c is for you.

Choosing a car because Car & Driver gave it a 1 point margin over the G for subjective reasons in an issue with numerous RX-8 advertisements in it is not a good reason. Just test drive them yourself. It's not like C&D was evaluating their reliability, so the rest you can figure out yourself. They're both worthy of a long look. Top two on my list.

There have been many threads on the merits of all the competition.

If the Pictures don't come up, then maybe we could get "G35C" to post the RX8 one again. I will NEVER look at another RX8 again without laughing!!

If you pay special attention and read the article carefully, the RX-8 was not only slower in a straight line; but also on the track. The reason why it was was in terms of sport car feel due to its lower weight, while the G35 is the better touring car. Having driven both, I still choose my G. If the RX-8 had better styling, no rear doors, and an engine with some torque then I may have gone the other way.

i was chooseing between them both also but the rx is really low on tourqe and i just do not get a warm fuzzy about that rotory engine i bet the dealer ships are sending there mechanics back to school to learn how to repair them. I read alot about people haveing alot of problems with mechanics screwing up the old rx=7's

I saw the RX-8 on the freeway. God i can't believe how screw up mazda did. The front and the back look nice but when come to the size, ugly... Sorry, that was just my opinion.
The best thing you can do is to test both car. Also, if you still undecided, go check out the cadillac too. i forgot the model name but it look pretty good. Betwen the rx8 and the cadi, i think i pick the cadi any day.
good luck with you buying decision man.

Re: Mazda Rx-8 vs G 35C
In the midst of the decision myself between the RX8, the 350Z and the G35. I race Miatas but need a new hard top toy for around town and longer road trips to far away events. Would like to be able to track this new toy when I get to that far away event.
On looks, I absolutely love the G35's lines and that blue color, to my eyes easily the best looking of the three choices and its long wheel base would certainly make it a nice long hauler. On handling, I prefer the nimble and balanced character of the Rx8...great fun to throw around with its exceptionally low polar moment and low total weight. The 350Z/G35 duo feel overweight and ponderous at the limit to me in comparison (my Miata eats Zs at track events thanks to 1000 pounds less weight and a 200+hp supercharged engine...doesn't take a great driver when physics gives you this much of an edge).
I wish the RX8 had more grunt because if it had the grunt of the G35/350z then my decision would be made given how much lighter it is. Conversely, if I could get the weight out of the G35/350Z then it would be my choice for its grunt and space and looks (particularly the G).
So, that brings up my question to this forum. Anyone tried to get the lead out of one of these? I am sure most are buying these as their luxury street cruiser but has anyone with track leanings like me tried to lower the weight? For example, what do the seats weigh? Anyone replaced or relocated the battery (racing dry cell replacement?), measured the weight savings in changing wheels or going with aluminum coilovers, carbon fiber parts, light pulleys, etc? Thanks,
Brian Goodwin

Re: Mazda Rx-8 vs G 35C
Brian,
Surprised to see you here. Didn't know you were thinking about a G35c. I cancelled my order for an RX-8 about 2 months ago right after buying a G35c.
I think I made the right decision for me at least. I needed the G35c for my daily driver, and as mentioned above this car is a) more luxurious and b) more powerful (better for trying to pull out into traffic on the freeway.
I also factored in the fact that my Miata provides all the Zoom-Zoom I need for driving back twisty roads. What I wanted from this car was lots of oomph for freeway driving. I DIDN'T need a four passenger Miata!
If you'd like to check-out my G35c contact me off-line and we'll meet somewhere. I actually had it at the last two club meetings but didn't see you there.
