What would cause one light to go on, then if you switch off and turn it back on the light that was just on turns off and the other turns on?

If you're talking about headlights most likely bad bulbs.

When it's visibly dirty. If you buy an aftermarket filter that's washable, make sure it's completely dry before you re-install it.

I don't think you can test a HID bulb with a multimeter.

But a hid is a suspended arc. I think that would probably be pretty high voltage to be measuring with a basic multimeter.

oh, wait the wires attaching to the bulbs are over 12v? lol. That would make sense. Guess Ill just get my old bulbs for testing. Or just buy the new ones only 15 bucks + ship

^Um... yeah...

IIRC they're somewhere in the millions of volts area... I don't think you have a 1,000,000+ VAC range on your multimeter

You guys just need to stick to the basics and use old fashion trouble shooting. Fire up the HID and try this just like you did with 9v batteries
