A lot of people drive with the VDC on, and a lot drive with it off.
In snow, really slick clay, deep sand/mud, you want it off because it can get you stuck.
If you plan on driving "spirited" and want to be able to get tail-out, you want it off.
Most of the time, it's better to have it on, as it can save your butt... in certain cases though, it can also cause a lot of understeer.
