First thing that comes to mind is the 02 sensors Chris. Take a look to see how those and the wiring held up after destroying the road!

For the trunk, two vendors on the site sell them.

sensors seem intact. but the cats and everything else are quite beat up. and most of this damage is from that day.

Wheels were built by CZWheels.

You can try Wheelflip, VR Wheels, or MemoryFab in the bay area.

My friend might have a hook up at West Coast Powdercoating on the Peninsula. he just got camber/toe arms done on his Lexus there, and they looked quite good. I can ask him about it, what do you need powdercoated?

Painting a car

I had always heard. That painting a car other than its stock color woulf devalue that car.

My question was this. With people spending thousands of dollars of paint jobs. Is this true.

I understand if you get a maaco paint job how it could devalue. But what about a really nice job. Door jams and engine bay included?

I might want to do this in the future. But don't want to depreciate my car on purpose.

And if you do this. Does it change on the title as well

I was considering it cause I always wanted white faced wheels. You have a ballpark price? Never knew how much powder coating wheels cost.

A nice paint job should not devalue the car. if anything, certain buyers will pay even more. Especially if the color works great on the car.

Ex; Lamborghini Yellow on a Geo Metro. Just plain wrong.

holy crap dude. I know because stance and such, but maybe it's time to lift the car up just a bit, seriously.

Saying it out of love. That's the subframe you dented, that's kind of important

Well, they were wrong. My car suffered HUGE and I mean HUGE impacts by the undercarriage hitting small raised portions of the highway. The impact sounds like someone taking a sledgehammer to an anvil. Shattered pieces of asphalt can then be heard tumbling underneath my car. After encountering 10 or so large impacts, I had decided to slow down to 45MPH on the highway just to lessen the force. Eventually my SES light went on, I thought for sure something must have punctured/cracked/dented/snapped.

Once I got home, I immediately jacked up the car, found nothing leaking or cracked. Aside from a destroyed undertray, and bent up metal everywhere, all seemed intact-ish. I decided to disconnect the negative battery term, and reconnect it, and see if that would clear the light. Started the car, and the SES is gone. Hasn't returned for 2 days. Now I'm not sure what the hell the issue was. A false alarm from the impacts, or something else. But the light is gone, I'm just wondering if i'm in the clear, or if there could be a real issue. Any ideas what might have caused the SES?

It was so bad, I tried taking El Camino all the way back up to SF from Sunnyvale in an attempt to avoid the carnage, even if my trip was another 1-2 hours longer. But El Camino Real around cupertino & palo alto is so horrible, I ended up merging back onto 280N just to end the suffering quicker.

Thank goodness 280N/S and El Camino Real in my area (north of San Bruno) is smooth.
Driving a slammed ride is a form of art, gotta keep weaving around all the bumps and potholes. Or you can just drive it like you stole it and deal with the broken parts later.

I'm willing to bet hitting the bump jolted a battery terminal, turning on the SES light. Happened to my G all the time. Every now and then the negative terminal even pops off, stalling the car. That happened until I decided to put a wood screw through the terminal to make sure it holds.

If you are having problems driving over those bumps at even 45MPH, then you might want to rethink your suspension. Something firmer, that doesn't give as much or have as much rebound might be better.

This might have been it. I remember the battery bracket was not even attached anymore. it was just left rattling around. I didn't pay much attention to it, and just reattached it.

My suspension is fairly stiff, I might custom order some ridiculous 25kg+ spring rates from Swift, and have my shocks revalved for it.

@tunermax

I only drive the car about 1000 miles a year, and most of it is just local driving within a 10-15 mile radius from my house. For the rest of the time, and long trips where I'm not familiar with the roads, I take out my other car. Unfortunately, this was one of those times where my daily beater was out of service, and I had to take the G35 out.

In other news, any trick to getting out an o2 sensor? (for my beater)

I can't exactly fit my socket over the damn thing, thanks to the wire. Crescent wrench is a no go, the head of the o2 sensor is in a hole, where only a socket would reach into.
