ok ive searched and searched...

and i havn't found a thread that answers my question.

I've been reading about the coupe mid pipe swap and have seen pictures of this.

My question is though, would it be possible to just weld flanges onto a straight pipe (no bends) and have it run from the y-pipe flange directly to the OEM axle back flange? It seems pretty straight to me from only looking at it underneath the car. I plan on pulling that section out to tomorrow anyways but knowing what im in for would be better.

Also this is my first post so ill post my car.

2004 6mt just broke 100k.

Thanks for the advice.

You can do anything that floats your boat as long as you have $$$$$. Keep in mind you might get a ton of rasp or drone since you do not have a resonator what so ever except the rear can. If I am not mistaken the 2003-2004 have a smaller muffler so it tends to be louder now imagine how loud it would be with a straight pipe to the muffler. Have you seen what a 2003 midpipe looks in comparison to a 2005 midpipe and what a coupe midpipe looks like. If you remove the resonator completely please carry some earbuds for your passengers.

+1. It's most likely going to be loud and raspy.

im completely ok with the "drone."

Im not looking for the cheapest way out, just looking for a way to remove the midpipe with a straight(ish) pipe. I printed out some diagrams of the exhaust system for the sedan and heres what i was basically looking for.

edit. thank you for the move

do NOT run a straight middy, it WILL drone badly. i don't even recommend the coupe mid-pipe, just do the 05-06 sedan middy if you wanna do a cheap upgrade.

What you're talking about is a resonator delete. imo its too raspy. You should try taking the muffler off and see how you like it..its a good, easy DIY. That's what i did and actually love it. It just deepens the tone of the exhaust, doesn't make it raspy. And with the stock 04/03 mid pipe (which is HUGE) it won't be too drone-y!

the coupe or z mid-pipe is fantastic...sounds a lot better than the 05/06 sedan middy as well...do not do a straight pipe lol

coupe/z middy's aren't worth the drone, if ur exhaust is gonna be loud it better be powerful.
