Its real easy, took like 5 minutes. Remember the piece you are cutting the notches in is plastic not metal, so its pretty damn easy.

no lower without seriously modifying the shaft. Not worth it, it looks higher then it is in real life..

Are you saying that the metal looking piece in the picture Jason posted (copy below) is actually plastic? Or did you just cut the white plastic piece so that the shift **** snaps into the lower groove (the one that Jason circled w/ the word "NOTCH" on it)?

Yep that metal looking piece with the notches is plastic 100%. Its hard plastic and takes a little effort but like I said I used a serrated steak knife...

wow thats cool. now to decide on color. I have the tan interior with black dash setup. i am thinking black since it will match the steering wheel and the stock one is black/aluminum.

hey what do the shifter of models previous to the 08 look like?

There's a link to a pic in one of the first few posts on page 1. Not pretty.

Hey Jason,

Do you have pictures of the various colors and styles of the M shifters (i.e. 07 and 08/sport and non-sport)?

Thanks!

time for my pic... click for full size...

Actually I think the stitching is a little darker than I thought it would be... I would have loved really bright white for contrast, but I guess it would have eventually ended up that color anyway.

Got a connect with someone that works industrial leather sewing machines, so I gotta take my boot over there and see what they say about tearing it up and doing the thread to match.

Great. That makes it much easier to cut. After cutting the metallic plastic piece, did you also cut the white piece? Or does it just push down and sit lower once you snap the shift **** into the 2 side grooves?

OK people I dont know if the thread hasnt been read but THE **** DOES NOT SIT ANY LOWER WHATSOEVER THEN THE STOCK ****.

Just had to get that out there. And no you do not cut the white plastic part, just some grooves in the metal looking plastic. The pin slides in and stops the **** from being pulled off.

With all that being said, this is a great mod to do. The **** feels so much nicer then the stock ****, and the inside just feels more luxurious. Highly Reccomended!!

I think the reason most people, including myself, liked the M style shifter was because it sat lower (like a short shifter). Once one is modified, made shorter and pictured, I'm sure more people will jump on it
