Looks like we're going to have a do a group buy on this, depending on how it turns out.

Good News & Bad News!

Ok I have some good news and bad news...

Good news first: No need for the shift boot! The existing boot snaps on directly and fits great. No need to change the boot!

Bad news: The M (Y50) shift **** is slightly shorter than the G (V36) shift ****. The Y50 **** slips on directly and functions perfectly although, it does not go down as far as the we would like. The "Cross Shaft" which is a plastic piece that the button pushes down on is the same on both shifter assemblies so the metal part would have to be modified to reflect the Y50 so it will sit the same on the V36 as on the Y50.

The shift **** does directly swap onto the V36, it sits at the same physical height, but the boot is pulled up about 3/4's of an inch to meet up with the bottom of the Y50 ****. If left at this height, the snap clip does not have any grooves to go into, so 2 grooves would have to be made in the V36 Shifter Shaft. The **** does fit securely, some force would have to be used to pull off the shift **** without the snap clip properly in place. I would advise on filing a couple of grooves into the side of the shifter for it to snap into to be completely secure.

Here are some photos...

Side by side of the Y50 (left), V36 (Right) shift *****:

Y50 **** installed on the V36 (this will also install on the CV36 by the way):

Side by Side of the Y50 **** on the V36 as it would sit un-modified:

Side by Side of the Y50 Shifter Shaft and the V36 Shifter Shaft. The metal parts would have to be trimmed down on the V36 for the **** to sit lower like the Y50:

I read all that and got all confused... so let's start over...

IF you get the M ****, and you get the M boot, do they just install fine and you don't have to do anything?

I'd rather go that route because I assume the M boot just fits, plus it has the stitching to match?

Dont worry about the boot... no need for it any longer... I did not think the M boot would snap onto G **** and vise versa...

Ignore the boot...

The stiching on the M boot I got is all black, does not have the white threading like the ****...

Ill look at an M sport and see if it has the same stitching as the ****...

Wha? What do you mean ignore the boot? Then what is this:

The shift **** does directly swap onto the V36, it sits at the same physical height, but the boot is pulled up about 3/4's of an inch to meet up with the bottom of the Y50 ****. If left at this height, the snap clip does not have any grooves to go into, so 2 grooves would have to be made in the V36 Shifter Shaft.
So... regardless of the boot, you have to cut down the shaft so that the M **** would fit?

OR is this because you're using the G boot on the M ****? That's my question... is there any way you just plug-and-play?

Maybe I was not clear in my description of the installation above...

The M **** fits, but without any modification sits at the same height as the stock G shift ****. The stock G boot snaps on directly to the M ****.

In order for the M **** to sit lower like it does in the M, the SHifter Shaft would have to be cut.

So the bottom line is in order to make the **** fit we have to cut 2 small grooves in the shaft in order to allow the little clip to slide in and secure the ****. Complicates things a little but still can be done.

Ah ok... I thought from your post earlier that it wouldnt' work right unless you cut it. The cutting it down part is JUST so that it sits lower...

So... my new questions are...

* does the M boot come with the same stitching as the ****?

* seeing how the whole thing is LOWER on the M, does the M boot actually REACH the M **** sitting on the G shaft?

* If I get an M **** and M boot, can I just put it on the G shaft, period and have it work? Even if it sits higher, etc.?
