Bank 1 VTC Cover Removal
I did not try and make it look new. The only cleaning I did was to rag wipe the inside the best I could. I'd imagine some brake cleaner would take off some of the varnish but I didn't see the point. The cover screws need to be tightened in a specific order. This allows for even compression of the gasket and will assist in a good seal. The order is in the service manual and actually the screws were supposed to be loosened in a specific order as well. The orders are reverse of each other. Unfortunately that means that bolt number 9 should have been loosened first but you and I loosened it last. Didn't seem to do any damage to my cover. I was worried about bending or warping but that did not happen.
No, once you get the magnet off you will see how the spring clips work. I followed the instructions and was able to remove the magnet very quickly. Can you see the two different depths of the paper. If you put the paper in on top of the clip obviously you won’t go the same depth as when you don’t. Install paper at deepest point and slide around to the shallow point at which you will be disengaging the spring clip. Hard to describe. Read the procedure again. You might have just missed an instruction or something.
Yeah I’ll try again tomorrow. My thing is, do all four paper shims need to be in at the same time before sliding one shim around to disengage the lock?(because after putting in three shims, it gets very tight and can’t put the 4th shim in)
Or you can just stick one shim into the deepest side and slide it around to disengage the lock? I seen a video of a guy doing it this way, he didn’t even cut the shims like the manual suggested. He just stuck it in and moved it around.

I did not cut the shims either.
Put a shim in and slide it to the point where it disengages the spring clip then leave it there.
Put in another shim and slide it to the point where it disengages the next spring clip and leave it there.
Repeat until all clips are disengaged and that magnet will fall right out of the cover. All I did was turn the cover over and the magnet fell out.
If needed, you can gently pry the magnet against the other shims to give yourself a little more room to insert the last shim.
Okay man, you got this. Git'er done!

Yea the clips are a lil tricky. Took several trys to get mine out too. They seemed to be hung up slighly even after getting all 4 fims in place. Had to bump it pretty hard from the back side with the magnet facing down. Are you using the 75 shims or the 100 ones?
