^Risk of hydrolock is a moot point for me. I had no business anywhere near the puddle I drove through. It was way tooooo deep and I very very nearly got stuck, but still didn't have any issues with HL.
If I never go through a puddle that deep (and trust me, I'll be avoiding that mess at all cost) it will never be an issue.

That being said, if you pay attention to my posts both in this thread and others, I don't even remotely delude myself into thinking that the G gained any power at all from a CAI. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if it lost a couple.
The thing is, it sounds absolutely siiiiiick. Forget z-tubes/jwt/short-ram/whatever else... a really long intake pipe on a VQ sounds awesome.
And that's my only reason for leaving it on... well, that and it looks good.
Look at my mod list... I got the more-power bug out of my system already. Owning two Trans-Ams with modded engines, and then putting one of them sideways into the woods will kinda do that to ya

So if I am reading this right... Are some of the aftermarket intakes completely nullifying the plenum mods?

According to the dyno sheets, all of the intakes were tested on Rob's upper and lower + 5/8'' spacer amirite?

Or are the test comments on the dyno sheets lying? That or I'm just dumb and don't understand what's going on.... Probably the latter.

It would make much more sense if the plenums mods were NOT on during tests 8-15...

yes some intakes nullified plenum mods.

my methodology was to give the intakes a free flowing plenum in order to isolate the best possible chance for a power gain on the intakes. basically less restrictions behind the intake.

Wow. To spend $1000 on MD plenum+spacer and an intake to gain absolutely nothing (untuned)....... Glad I decided against an intake and stick with my z-tube + K&N...

EDIT: on that bombshell, thanks so much for doing this test... You just saved me $250+ dollars lol.

OP, do you switch between intakes? One for show, one for go?... you just posted this one:

thats correct.

although I'm still interested to try to get my car tuned with this intake on since its 2.85" D instead of stock 2.75" D... I know the 3" maf was making gainst on NA builds, and since I have cams and every other bolt on it would be interesting to see if tuning would make this intake perform better over stock.

the only thing I see as a issue is the heat soak. this pipe does get pretty hot and retain engine heat which will keep IATs up for a longer period of time compared to the stock box. I still plan on using stock box at auto-x and track events.

it's not just the pipe you should be worried about... that unshielded filter is sucking hot air...

I know people like the looks of that style setup - but for me, it's not worth sacrificing performance for looks... like I said, you can have both.

I'm not suggesting you should change it - it's your car... I just thought is was ironic that you have this thread and you run that intake.

yeah it's on my car for shows and such... I still put the stock one in when it matters. I did feel kinda weird about putting it back in knowing what I know, but my car is getting a little showy and it looks weird having the stock box in there.
