I put min for 9 min at 210, and then you will have to use some strength to open it up. The glue should not be liquid.

im getting ready to do mine and been reading as much as i can in preperation. couple questions tho...

1) if my headlights are oxidized would it be recommended to plastix it before the bake or it doesnt matter? i only as becuase last thing i want is for the oxidization to be more difficult to remove after the bake

2) is it recommended to let the lights cool off a bit before attempting to remove the lens? cus i remember doing this long ago on my 91 240sx turn signals and the tabs were really fragile and soft right after i took it out of the oven which caused them to break

3) and is there absolutely no way of getting the yellowed clearance strip clear again? not even via roughly sanding all the yellow off?

4) do i need to clear coat it? i wanna do gloss black and was gonna jus use the fusion spray can that already has clear coat in it.

good diy btw

1) It doesn't matter but you should be using plastix everytime you wash your car. I would however wipe down the lenses (outside only..don't touch the inside) to get any fingerprints off...just something I've always done.

2) If you wait, the butyl will harden making it harder to remove the lense...so no need to wait.

3) sounds like you have pre-06 headlights....I have no experience removing the yellow from the clearance strip...sorry.

4) Since you want it glossy, clear will give you that affect. Just buy a can and see what it looks like after you've put your finishing spray on

Good luck!

I just did mine yesterday, matte black the housing. Came out great, very informative diy. One thing to add though, to help the drying process on the paint for the housing...you could throw the painted housing in the oven at 300 degrees and leave it in there for 15-20 minutes. It will be extremely hot when you take it out though, but it will be super dry. So it could speed up your drying process.

man did this over the weekend wat a nightmare using a heat gun man. when i was ready to bake found out my moms oven doesnt even work so i had to go out and buy a heat gun. how did u guys put the lens back into the housing using a heat gun? i couldnt get it to seal all the way cus the sealant jus wouldnt let me smush them back together all the way. i pretty sure itll leak but funny thing is it was raining yesterday and the headlights, to my surprise, didnt fog up...looks great tho lol

300 degrees sounds high to be putting plastic in there for so long. I've never tried this but would opt to put it in at a lower temperature since there really isn't that thick of paint that needs to cure and because the bezels are plastic. Thanks for the tip.

If you were able to get it down far enough for the clips to go back, that is all you need. Condensation usually takes a few days to build up so just watch it. You might be ok.

I would like to say, as one of the first few folks to use this diy, i have had absolutely no problems with mine. Still look great, no condensation issues or anything.
Very nice of you to lead all these diy'ers to successful light modding chris. Good job.
