i'm guessing the 05 gauges require you to sand off the orange film then you have to desolder the 05 gauges stock LEDs and solder on blue ones. lucky 05 bastards get it easy.

what wattage iron did you use? I may shop around for one with a pot on it so I can adjust. I have an 05 so I will take lots of pix just in case any one wants them for reference. Thanks for publishing your research.

Its hard to believe that theirs not an aftermarket supplier who sells the guages, etc in a different color already...

just noticed something...and please disregard this message if I'm wrong here but...it that rat shack solder?
hope yer removing the acid core flux pretty well cause that sh*t will corrode like crazy. For all you guys thinking about doing any mods requiring soldering use kester 44 or 245(no clean).

and another thing...props for doing smt rework with that thick of a guage solder.

sorry to chime in but if yer in the market for a decent iron I would suggest a weller wlc series iron. OTOH I have a hakko 936 ESD safe iron for about 6 years and I'm on the same first tips. I bought my hakko on evilbay for ~$50USD.
