I removed the gromets and the rubber washers from the top holes of the engine cover. I then placed the cover over the plenum and screwed it in. The hood won't drop shut, you must slam it down a bit or just push down slightly and the hood locks down.

My concern with the 1/2" spacer is that - if you need to manually push down to close the hood, that means the engine cover and the hood thermoshield are actually pushing against each other when the hood is closed. So what would happen if you hit the throttle and the VQ35DE sways around in the engine bay? Sounds alittle dangerous to me.
Yea. Then when you take it to the dealer for something, and they can't close the hood easily, they might get suspicious; thus defeating the whole "stealth" idea behind this modification...

This is why don't recommend using the 1/2" spacer (with the engine cover) on the G35C.
It's either 3/8" with the cover or 1/2" without the cover.

There is contact with the shield on the hood at two points on the right side but just barely. Its a simple adjustment with the gromets in the back of the cover to get it to fit. Its a matter of preference I quess. The engine bay looks good with or without the cover.
Thanks for the feedback and experimentation. You are the first I know of to try it. At least now we know it can be done sucessfully (with certaint provisos).
Albert did the first Crawford and 1/4" Spacer. (sucessfully)
Derick did the first Kinetix and 3/8" spacer. (sucessfully)
We'll never know untill its tried.

Spacer
Installed 3/8 spacer today. Install was straight forward no surprises. Went for a ride after, sounds great and there's more power. Tony the service and packaging are great.
Thank you

I waited until the G35 Driver Norcal Dyno Day at Modacar in Livermore, CA to write this because I don't trust my Butt Dyno. I'm glad I waited. The results speak for themselves. Exactly one month ago today I tag teamed with the Norcal Toyota Matrix Club for a Dyno Day on 2/19/05. Current mods on my coupe that day were the Stillen CAI / Z-Tube, Stillen Torque Dampener and 8-Wire Grounding Gear. My best pull of three in 4th gear was 229 HP & 218 Torque.
Today I met up with a great bunch of guys and gals from the G35 Driver and My350Z Norcal club for another Modarcar Dyno Day. The only mod I had installed between then and now was Motordyne's 3/8" spacer coupled with an ECU Pedal Reset done right after the install. WOW...is all I can say! My best pull today was 241 HP and 225 Torque. That's an approximate increase of 12 HP and 7 Torque accross the board that I can attribute to Tony's Spacer. You can see from the charts below that conditions were almost identical weather wise between the two Dyno Days (Cold and Rainy). I can only attribute this increase in HP & Torque to the Plenum Spacer. Casey at Modacar was nice enough to pull up last month's run (pre-spacer) and superimpose the graph's and numbers from todays pull. What I find very interesting is both HP and Torque start higher and finish higher accross the whole pull. No loss of low end torque...No gain of high RPM HP...Just a nice clean gain in both from start to finish.
This, I have to say, is one of the best Dollar vs. HP/TQ Mods you can do. Tony's customer service, packaging and shipping were exlemplary. Not to mention the quality of the spacer and included hardware itself. Can you tell I'm really stoked about this Mod?

Finally, a good comparison. Now, we need someone with an 05 6MT to do the same thing. I want to see if the change in the lower plenum design make the spacer work better or worse. I'd hate to spend $200 just to find out that the '05 plenum and spacer only nets 1HP and 2lbs. of torque or sumpin' like that. Who's gonna take the plunge?
Congratulations!
I must say that the plenum spacer has to be the product of the year! Brilliantly designed, simple, and unobtrusive. Those manufacturers trying to redesign the wheel must be scratching their heads right now…
