Randy,
I'm not sure what you're refering to, but the site clearly shows track configuration #14 for Saturday HERE. In fact, configuration #1 is not even being considered for either Friday or Sundy. *Puzzled*

Tony,
That's very cool. I'd be happy to pitch in my two cents at the track ... although I do not own the Stillen exhaust.
You should also conduct SPL measurements from inside the cabin as well. IMHO number from the inside is arguably more useful than the numbers outside. Even the quietest exhaust will easily exceed 100dB if sampled from aft of the exhaust pipes. In fact, when most people complain of an exhaust being too loud or find them annoying, it is from the driver's or passenger's perspective. There's no doubt the sedan Stillen exhaust is far louder than the sedan Borla from the inside, yet when I took SPL readings a while back they were less than 1-2 dB apart from behind the car.
Since free reving while stationary will not have enough engine load to re-create SPL during a cruise, we could move my camcorder between cars and then analyze the sample later. That would require us to run at least one lap w. the windows up (to cut down on wind noise). I'll run the sample through a FFT analyzer and see what particular frequencies the different exhausts generates most of and at what level. As you probably already know, low frequency has more weight than high frequency to the human ears at the same SPL (percieved as being louder).
Just my .02

Clint,
You have access to an FFT!!!! <=0 That would be friggen awesome!!!! =)
Plot an FFT at 2.5K RPM (freeway cruising speed) and @ 1K intervals of WOT. =p
I have the basic Radio Shack SPL meter and it shouldn't be hard to take elementry data points from that while on the track. My digital camera can be used for short/crude recordings of AV but it's fidelity obviously would leave alot to be desired for FFT analysis.
I also have a camcorder. I suppose I could put the tachometer and SPL meter in the same field of view of the camera while accelerating WOT up to 6.6K. I could then plot a basic SPL/RPM. =)
For FFT, my guesstimate is frequency response of the camcorder may only be sufficent between 100Hz to 6000Hz... I'm certaint it won't pick up the really wide spectrum of sound coming from the straight pipes. There is a BIG boost of very low frequency from the straight pipes. I would put it in the 50Hz-70Hz range. It's almost as if the unmuffled cat back is osscilating like a deep pipe organ tube. The chambered stock and Stillen mufflers certainly don't do it, but the Magna Flows might because of the straight flow thru design. Are Borla's straight flow through designs? This may explain why Borlas have a deeper sound than Stillen.
With the straight pipes, there is also boosting of very high frequencies (far beyond what comes out of any muffler) but the HF is completely variable and strongly tied to RPM/load.
Does anyone here have access to a descent tape recorder and mic?

Oh yeah,
I almost forgot to attach the links. Here are some short clips of the straight pipes as recorded from the cockpit.

Gurgen posted these for me on his site. Thanks Gurgen!
They aren't fancy but they give you an idea. The camera gets shakey during shifting because my friend is holding the camera from the passenger seat.

I too have the basic Rat Shack SPL meter for calibrating my home theater sound equipments. The analog model (the one I have) is actually very decent (wrt to performance). I moded the circuit inside mine so the low frequency response is highten'd giving a virtually flat frequency response all the way down to < 20hz
I'm also concerned w. the frequency response of the normal recording device at our disposal. The Rat Shack internal mic is more than enough to task, but I can't say the same for the recording device. We'll see how the DV Camcorder fairs. In any case, we're only interested in the delta values so abosolute accuracy is not of a major concern here.
We'll talk more via PM ... so we don't cluttered up the band-width here :P

We are now Tee minus 5 days from the event. Are you getting excited? If you haven't begun preparation (check my to do list several posts earlier) then plz do so ASAP! You don't want to get caught by a surprise at the last minute.
Know where and who you are meeting. I don't think everyone's signed up for the two seperate caravans. I'll assume those of you are just going on your own? If you've missed it, check some posts back and add you name to the list.
Lastly (save the best one for last) ...
there appeared to have been a slight SNAFU with the cost of the event. This has only come to my attention after someone noted a slight over charge to their credit card. The cost of the event is actually $170 rather than $160 I had posted earlier (don't worry, we're still getting [/i]FREE timing[/i]). I did confirm the cost with Aaron at Speedventures on two seperate occassions prior to releasing the info to you guys, so there's apparently a miscommunication somwhere. Thank god it was only 10-bux, but still no thanks to the goof, because now I look like a total **** in the middle of this.
Sighting it would be far more complicated for them to refund the many $10 dollars back to each and everyone's credit-cards, it will be easier for them to deduct 10 bux for your next outting w. Speedventures. Not exactly the best solution nor the one I was looking for. If you are uncomfortable with above solution, do not hesistate to let either me or Aaron (aaron@speedventures.net) know that you'd rather get your money back.
Even through this mess, I can assure you the folks at Speedventures are good people. I only know because I have been with the for quite some time now. It was an honest mistake and let's hope everyone can understand that. Again, sorry for the confusion!
Here's the bottom line ...
Driving + Timing = $170
Driving + Timing + Instruction = $200
Check your credit card bill and be sure it is not more than the above.
Sincerely,
Clint (THX723)

I just checked our database and some people have been charged and some haven't. Tell them that they'll be charged the $160 rate and that those that were overcharged will get a refund of $10.
I've written down everybody who'd been charged the extra $10 so I'll try to remember to give it to them when they check in this weekend! If not, I'll credit their cards after the event.
Let them know! And apologize for me.
thanks,
Aaron

Aaron,
I did reconfirm the $160 rate with you after registration finally opened and the cost posted. Having done that, I thought the $160 was a special group rate. Sounds like we definitely have a mis-communications. In any case, I hear you loud and clear on that. I will relay the news to the rest of the group and let them know about the $10 discount towards the next event. I'll let you know how that goes.
Sincerely,
Clint

The problem is that I was guessing at the final pricing, back in early August, and forgot to mention that that wasn't final pricing. I hadn't actually checked with the track to see how much things were going to cost, settled on final pricing, and opened registration. I don't really care about the $10/person, it's just a hassle to change everything and issue credits, so I'll leave it up to you to decide what to do and I'll do it. I'd say if they really balk about it, I can give them $10 credits towards future events? That might be the easiest thing for me to do.
Sorry about the confusion, my bad.
thanks,
Aaron

Now that's what I call a happy ending to the story. I'm glad Aaron was able to resolve this is a very professional manner and I truly appreciated that ... regardless of who or where the fault was. Don't forget to grab your refund check (or cash) when you sign-in on Saturday
If some of you guys know (or later learn) that you'd love to go back for more with Speedventures for another adventure, perhpas you could ask to have the 10-bux applied towards your next event as a show of good faith. The credit will stay with your Speedventures account until you use it. Just a thought.
Once again, sorry for adding more confusions to the confusion
Cheers,
Clint (THX723)

I'm going, but just to watch.
If anyone else wants to go and needs a ride, I can take one.
I'll be leaving from Redondo Beach (not sure what time yet).

they sent me the following in an email and if you go to the link and scroll down, you'll see RACE #1 track. Sorry if I misread it.
1) Detailed information on the event is available online at
http://www.speedventures.net/Detailed_Event_Info_bw.asp . This will tell you how the morning will go, and is particularly important for anyone who hasn't driven with us before.
2 G or not 2 G, there's no question!

No worries Randy. Looks like they sent you the old link. Configuration #1 was used back in May. This time it's a three day event running configuration #25, #14, #13 for Friday, Saturday and Sunday respectively.
For your reference ... here's the Speedventures Calendar.
