well guys i have to say thanks for the OC issue thread. i bought mine a month ago and had my oil changed shortly thereafter at a nissan dealer (was cheaper than the 67.00 at infinity). After reading these forums for a month now i saw the thread and started researching, i actually checked my oil after i read this and well guess what. . . it was a qt low. . . there was only 980 miles since nissan changed it. I had been to infinity a few times for a small warranty deal with the seat bracket and window seals leaking and they were glad to fix it- no problem- had a loaner 08 G35 sedan waiting. So i called them about my OC issue and once again . . no problem! In fact the service manager said that they get pd everytime someone comes in with this issue. he advised me of the whole procedure and changed my oil (free) and started a claim. they get pd .4 for the oil change and .2 for everytime they have to check it, which is only twice after the oil change, then they order a new longblock! he said no problem they get $8,000 for the change. One thing he did say was that they have a certain warranty vs. income that they have to meet quarterly so if everyone in my city was to come in in this quarter then "YES" it would be more difficult to accept a claim and thats why bigger cities have the "*******" attitude towards replacing the engines. . . just thought i would drop a little info out there for all of you who are having issues with the OC warranty issue. i should have my new engine i about as long as it takes me to drive 1000, then check, 1000 then MOTOR!

^^^either that service manager was having a REALLY bad day or he needs to find another job. If he worked for me he would have been fired for that. There is no reason to discuss that much with the customer. I'm sure if Nissan North America found out about that then he would be in some serious trouble.

So basically you are condoning lying to customers that pay alot for a "premium" car. Dont hate because I have maybe one of the only HONEST dealers around. I can only hope that you pay out the *** for a motor! I'm sure most of the people on here would kill to just have a infiniti dealer that admitted the problem and did what they were supposed to do since NNA wont just come out and say " we f'd up and are gonna do whats right to fix it!"

^ Good insight...thanks. Explains probably why I was over filled by one dealer starting OC testing and then another dealer topping me off after 1200 miles and saying I was FULL, when I was 8-10mm low when I left my house to go to dealer It's obvious those dealers don't want to qualify me for replacement due to their quarterly warranty vs income ratio.

You seem upset that us members now know a little more about what games dealers play and why. I for one appreciate the honest insight from that dealer. There's no reason for dealers to play games with customers when it comes to warranty issues, but now I know why when they do. Who's side you on anyways

Ok, I read yours wrong. I thought when you said "the dealers get pd" that was the dealers get pissed....I'm assuming you meant paid. Lost in the translation....

anyway, good luck with the new engine. My new one will be installed on the 27th of this month.

Hey guys, I am thinking about getting the OC test done. I have a 06MT with mods tho... I have:

1/2 Plenum / ISO, Tbody upgrade
MREV2
Stillen Intake + ZTube
short shifter (I think I'll leave this in, doubt they'll know)

Do I have to remove these mods for the TSB to be honored?
Thanks

**Edit** Also, I would like to know if I had a polished plenum if I should replace that as well. I was thinking about getting mine polished with a core exchange, but if I have to replace them I may keep my core.

They might try and tell you that your air filter is dirty and requires changing....at least mine said that!

I ordered my MREV, Spacer, and a few other goodies and they are sitting in my garage right now because I didn't want to mess with the dealer over that issue. Technically, they can't void your warranty because of them, unless they can prove that those parts were the cause for the OC issue. I didn't install my parts because I knew that I would just have to take them right back off when the new engine arrived......which is soon!

Take your car in and don't even mention the mods.

Because you have a Revup, you might be fine with the mods. I've heard of many people getting their new VQ with mods on their G... It really depends on your dealer/service team.

I had a non-Revup, took off all my mods (except cat-back exhaust) and still got a lot of flack from the same dealer who was dropping VQ's into modded Revups left and right...but again I have a non-Revup which is not part of the TSB.

My thought is that you should go in there as stock as possible. It will only help your cause. Once you go in and have all those mods identified in your Infiniti service computer profile, you are potentially creating hardship for yourself. Paying $500 to have someone remove your mods to get your 13K engine repair seems like a small price to pay...just my two cents...

Agree with that statement. I came in with only a Ztube and catback exhaust to not give them an excuse of 'oh chit...that's why OC'
Those minimal mods were not an issue what-so-ever with my dealer. They didn't even bat an eye when they saw those, but every dealer is different.
Some don't care how many mods, some make mods a big issue or try too.

After my first 1000 miles my service guy comes out and says it's still at full.

This shocked me because after only 3000 (before I started the OCT) I didn't even have anything on the dipstick.

We agreed to go another 1000. It's been 450 miles, and I decided to cut the zip tie and look for myself because I don't trust the bastards. To my surprise the oil is already at the 1/2 way mark on the stick. This after only 450.

This tells me my dealer isn't very trust worthy at all. Good thing there's another one that's actually closer to my house.

I'm going to video tape myself following the exact TSB instructions the day before I go back for the next measurement. If the SOB comes out saying it's on high, I'm going to show him and his service manager the video. Then contact Infiniti consumer affairs to report a dirty dealership. My car sounds like it's gonna throw a damn rod now, and it only has 11,500 miles on it!

^ Wish you accurate results next time.
Don't be surprised if they void the test due to the zip tie being removed regardless of vid, but good idea and G/L.
Hopefully they won't make all that a problem.

Maybe go to other dealer and start it over with them. Even with different dealer, don't let your G out of your sight so there's no hanky panky.

I didn't follow my own advise on that and it bit me in the ****. Lesson learned

Oh...unusal noises can also qualify you for replacement regardless of oil level. Read the TSB.

So with my lesson learned and watched my G this last time, my consumption finally qualified me and Infiniti approved me for my V2 today.

I'll keep everyone up to date on whether my V2 is a success or failure. Hoping not the latter.

I checked my oil level last night and I'm over a quart low for the recommended interval, but I want to do my own test before I demod and take it to the dealer. Would the type of oil matter? What I mean is, wouldn't synthetic burn off less quickly than dino since it offers greater protection, or is it mechanical defect not dependent on oil type? Stupid question, but I want to know before I drop more $$ on some Royal Purple.

^ Widely discussed topic on which oil concerning OC and not a stupid question. No question is stupid

My experience has been that Synth will burn slightly quicker due to the smaller molecular make-up of dino, but nothing to write home about.
When the VQ has this OC issue, imo it doesn't matter dino or synth. Mine burned basically the same between the two types using 5w-30 and once 0w-30.

Not bashing RP, but have seen UOA's on that oil in healthy non OC VQ"s and it shears down to a 20w from a 30w ~3500mi oil interval or less I believe.
20w period is not good for our VQ's. Can only imagine what it would shear down to in a VQ with OC issues with added fuel dilute from blow-by.

I ran Amsoils top of the line series 2000 TSO 0w-30 in mine on one interval ~5000mi with one quart added during service and was another qt low at time of service for UOA sample.
It sheared down to a 20w with my OC from fuel dilute/blow-by.
Assembly lubes were not a factor in shearing, being my VQ had 20K on it well beyond break-in period.

Just my .02
