Ok, I need your advise...Sorry if it has been covered before, but should I let the dealer know that I'am aware of this tsb or just hear what they have to say first? or would it just make it more complicated? I'm going tomorrow for my 2nd OC because they said I needed a second check. I'm ok with this because I'm not too comfortable with the idea of replacing my engine anyways. But yesterday I checked my oil level and if I measured correctly it is about 17-18mm at 2585mi since last oil change.

This is in a good range according to the chart but nevertheless she's drinking oil I guess I'll have to see what they've got to say and go from there.

Any thoughts?? Thanks in advance...

Play dumb but be intelligent with your questions, if any. Just by your questions and their answers, you'll get a sense if they're on the up and up and/or they may realize you know more than they thought by your questions. They knew after awhile I was well educated about the issue and I must know about the TSB somehow. They got the picture and their statements toward me about the OC issue changed quickly. I never had to show them my copy that I brought, but had it just in case they firmly held their ground against TSB facts.

Were you topped off after your first test level reading?
If so, your level should be compared to the mileage you were topped off at (after first visit). Not the original mileage when testing started and oil was changed 2585 miles ago. That will make a big difference on where you are on the TSB replacement chart and your current 17-18mm (over 3/4qt down) reading.

Thanks V35...I hope your VQ is doing well.

Well, on my trip to the dealer....now they're really pissing me off. They said I need to come back another 1k because my miles are way over than 1k. Then I talked to another advisor and he said that my level is good but needed a 3rd OC check. I didn't bring the copy of the tsb but I implied i know about the tsb, and it was revised to 1 time instead of 3. The advisor is like what tsb? and I said don't BS me, I did my homework.

His main gripe is that I didn't come back for the 1k mile and it was way over ~2k. I said regardless you can still check the level! But to make the long story short I ended up with an answer that the level is ok but I need to come back another 1k. So I will, and I'll make darn sure I have a copy of this TSB when I go.

This might be a dumb question but where did this tsb come from? Is this what they get in the dealership and it's not published publicly?

o btw, I wasn't topped off so the measurement should be good on the 2585 miles.

Sorry for the rant, but so far I'm dealing with the OC that is borderline. Do you guys think this will get worse or a chance to get better as i put in more miles? So far I have 147XX miles...

Thanx and so far so good with my V2 I think. Tomorrow I do the 500mi oil change and so far only down some. Don't drive her much these days or try not to.

What TSB!! ... And his grip is you didn't come back until over 2K Sorry...hate dealers that play dumb or really are

Look on the chart and the column you just missed them using from your mileage/level and you'll see what happened. That's why they said your 'ok'. So keep that in mind as to why they said that and use that chart to your advantage next time you return. You were 85 miles over 2500mi column, that put you in the next column. See the 'ng' level at 2500 or less and now where you level needs to be to qualify? See what I'm saying and how to play

Update, changed the oil at 700 miles, now ~1300 miles into the new V2 and oil level is full

I'm going to change the oil again this weekend and again at around 2500 miles. After that I'm sticking to ~4000 miles between changes.

I'm sticking with regular Castrol 5W-30 and a Mobil filter for a while.

For the TSB question, just bring the TSB into the dealership with you, they can't do anything about you having it. Also, keep in direct contact with one person at Infiniti Customer Care, don't try and bounce around between reps. Get their desk line and call them before and after each dealership visit and let them know what happened.

^Good to hear it stayed full...nice

Just did my 500 mi oil change. Down about 4mm. Will go for 700-1000 mi on this interval and change again.

Well after 2 consecutive OC tests (both 14MM low), I finally received my new engine and just got my car back today so we'll see how it goes with the new engine.

I have to admit, without this webiste I would not have known half the stuff I did about the OC issue so I definitely have to tip my hat to you guys.

On another note, I really liked the loaner car I was given while they wer putting the new engien in on my car. I had the 07 G35 sedan; Quieter & more refined interior + a more powerful engine. I'm seriously considering trading my coupe in for the G35 sport sedan.

How did the car feel after the new engine? I'm really worried about not having that same feeling after the dealer touch the car. I had an experience before with my civic, the transmission went bad and after I got the car it felt really different. Just curious what you guys think of your car after getting it back. I need another 1k for my third check so maybe I'll be joining you guys.

I agree, thanks to all you guys here at the `driver!!!

Yes--these 07+ sedans have been playing in my mind in the last 6 months

My new VQ was/still is fine. Smooth as butter and seems strong. It's hard to keep it under 4K rpm during break-in though lol, but I am.

I agree! It feels and sounds great. No blackened exhaust tips from burnt oil - so my car looks cleaner too! After it's broken in, the JWT TT's are coming as long as it's not burning any more...

Actually, the car felt better after I got it back but I'm withholding final judgement until I can really open it up. The gears feel like they change alot smoother and the car feels more responsive in the lower RPM's.

All in all though, between the OC issue & my current tire feathering problem I would have to say I'm less than satisfied with the performance of this vehicle and I will very likely be trading it in within the next year or so. Someone else on this forum already stated this but the G35c is supposed to be a luxury sports-car but it does neither particularily well. Just my 2 cents.

my dealer keeps insisting you have to come back at 1k when the tsb clearly states 1k to 3750.

I also asked why they filled it with 10w30 for my test. They said the Infiniti "engineers" revised the recommended oil for that engine to 10w30. Again the c revision of the tsb from may 08 says oil to be used for the test is 5w30 in two places.

I have to take it in for a bad outside air temp sensor on Monday. Guess I need to bring my copy of the tsb to prove to them that I can read.

^ Well in my case after getting replacement, they (Infiniti) will only honor the existing warrany left on my powertrain. When thats expired, so is the new VQ.

Heard of some Nissan 350Z owners getting an extended warranty free after VQ replacement and know one owner personally, but Infiniti basically laugh at me when I mentioned that (many calls in trying btw) and their answer was still a stern NO!! they won't do that Thanx Infiniti for treating your customers so well compared with Nissan 350Z owners on a known defect after replacement
