Check out my posts, that's what i'm using and it works well. I believe 909 has a similar setup with a controller that clips to his steering wheel, but I could be mistaken.

Edit: 909's setup has controls on his bluetooth adapter that sits in front of his arm rest, not on his steering wheel.

I saw your set up and am wondering if you have the ability to use steering wheel controls and have the info displayed on your main screen. I want to use w/ my iPhone XR and have the ability to adjust things w/ my steering wheel or on the display like Stickyz set up.

No use of either, but I'm currently piecing together a setup so I can mirror my phone screen on the main screen and use a bluetooth remote to control it. You likely won't be able to use the steering wheel controls if you only have the base entertainment system in it, need the fancy tech package

Ok, got my setup together. I'm using a Galaxy S8, a QGeem Type-C to HDMI converter/hub from Amazon and an HDMI to RCA converter from the local electronics store. It's not a perfect setup, as I'm currently using a mini USB mouse to control it, but it does allow me to run the Car Launcher Agama App as a home screen as well as run Pandora for music and Google Maps for navigation. For network access I run my S10e as a wireless hotspot. I tried it out running Dex (Samsung's desktop interface) but couldn't adjust the display size to make it practical, so I just run it using Screen mirroring. Next step is to tear into the console to figure out a better way to fit everything in so that it's not a huge jumbled mess.

I tried a similar setup: RCA->HDMI->USB-C Hub to Samsung Note8 via screen mirroring. Although I may be able to live with a low res image due to the RCA video out, I not prepare to take out the stereo to fix the "parking brake" requirement just yet. Only wish there was a direct drop-in screen replacement with HDMI/USB-C connector. I previously installed a Pioneer avh-w4400nex in my Sonata and really enjoyed the wireless Android Auto. I also installed a Pumpkin Android HU in my MX-5 but prefer the Pioneer experience. Although, at 1/2 the cost, it's serviceable.

Sorry, haven't been here in a while... Nice to see you got it working.

You asked about sound quality but probably already know that it's fine. At least to my ears, I can't hear any difference.

Only downside I've ran into and this isn't necessarily the CarPro's fault is when using speech-to-text on my phone. In my setup, my phone thinks the CarPro has a microphone (it seems to treat it like a headset w/ microphone) so it doesn't "hear" my speech. This is with Apple's keyboard and Google Gboard. With SwiftKey, it uses the phone's microphone but doesn't pause audio meaning I have to turn it down manually. Gboard used to have a setting that let you control this until you also installed the main Google app and then it took over. It didn't have this setting so no more selecting the option. I just want it to use the car's built-in mic.

Most modern bluetooth devices like that will have a "privacy mode" that you need to disable. Privacy mode will force audio to the phone instead of the device, you might check your settings to see if there's anything like that. I know Android has supported audio and microphone switching via BT devices since 5.x however as you've already seen it's up to the app developers to add that functionality. It's not something controlled through base android.

No settings (that I can find) in Apple's tools. Not surprising though. Nothing in Swiftkey either. Google's GBoard keyboard used to have this option. The frustrating part is it used to work great ! It used the car's built-in microphone so the placement was ideal and it would mute (or pause - don't remember anymore) any audio that was coming through the stereo.

The bluetooth device in my case has no s/w interface. Going to dig into this privacy mode now....
