370Z springs experiment

I just cut a spare set of rear spring seats. I took approx. 5/8" off, and noticed that doing this exposes some of the internal reinforcing plastic (i.e., a plastic tube on the ID surface). I wonder if it will now be more prone to separating from the rubber and failing or wearing prematurely.

Ian/Paul: did you guys notice if this weakened the spring seats or caused any problems over time (i.e., separation of the rubber spring seat portion from the plastic tube portion, cracking, creaking sounds, etc)?

I haven't experienced any of the things you are questioning. No Problems at all. Its been 9 months and 10,000km since I put the cut seats on.

Mine have been cut for almost 2 years with 25,000ish miles on them with zero issues

well one part of the equation is done, have a set of 370z springs headed my way in the mail. Emailed Riverside Infiniti and never rec'd a response. Any vendors on the forum that you guys prefer? Looking to pick up my spring mounts asap

I finally got my 370z springs and shaved rear seats installed on my '08x. Thanks for all the helpful information guys.

The outcome was exactly what I was hoping for - appreciably improved handling without being too stiff. I've had prokit and sportline springs on other cars, which could be a pain at times.
The drop is nice and even now (~ 0.9" front and 0.7" rear), AND I won't have to worry about any speed bumps or driveways. Beautiful.

Alignment numbers:
Camber:
LF -1.7° RF -1.4°
LR -0.9° RR -0.9°

Toe:
LF +0.05° RF +0.05°
LR +0.04° RR +0.04°

Wish I could even out the front camber, but not bad for a simple conservative drop.

The only issue I noticed was that the mechanic forgot to transfer the plastic sleeve (which was on the bottom end of the factory front springs) on to the new springs (which didn't have the sleeve). Will this cause any noise, vibration, or fretting/wear issues?

^ Now you have metal on metal. I suppose there is a possibility of some noise. I would ask the mechanic to redo the backs and put the plastic on. With a lift he should be done both sides in 15 minutes.
I did my rear coil springs (with no prior experience) in 30 minutes on jack stands.

The missing sleeve is at the front springs actually. I looked at my old springs and the sleeves actually weren't even positioned on the bottom end of the spring coil (they might have slid up the coil somehow?). So, I might have had metal-metal contact before as well. In any case, the shop said they can replace the sleeve and re-do the alignment.... another trip to the shop.

Were my alignment numbers consistent with yours btw?

Guys, awesome thread here.. I feel like I'm so late in the game :P

Question for those that did this mod for the G35X: I'm assuming that the oem AWD springs are alot softer than the G35S -- did swapping out only the front springs for stiffer 370z springs leave the car with more understeer?
Did any of you also try swapping out the rear springs for G35S springs?

I cannot tell any appreciable different in feel/handling with the G37 springs up front.

The G35S rear springs are an interesting idea though. FWIW, I saw a .8" drop with the 370z springs. Very easy job to swap them out also.

Just got my 370 springs and shaved mounts installed, only driven a day or so on them but can already notice an improved driving experience. Less body roll, feels less like I'm driving a boat and more like an Infiniti sports sedan. I'll post some pics in my own thread once I get her washed up this weekend assuming it's not raining. Overall very happy with the improved handling, appearance and minimal cost!

This was my 07X. The 370Z sport coil springs make a big difference in the feel. It's a good affordable solution for eliminating a bit of the 4x4 look and keeping the car high enough for winter driving. Especially for those who don't like hearing the bottom of their vehicle scraping along ridges of snow and ice).

Hey guys, what are you thoughts on the the 370z struts? if the springs work well on the G w/ a modest drop, would that imply the struts off a 370z (front atleast) should work as well (and perhaps mate better)?
I read somewhere that the G's are longer/taller, but so are the springs...

I just removed my summer wheels after having installed the front 370Z springs ~6months ago in May.

Evaluation so far: no scraping, happy with the stiffness, handling. But, I did notice abnormal tire wear (cupping) on the inboard sides of the front tires when I took them off. This is due to the increased negative camber (now -1.4 to 1.7°). I've noticed that it does seem to sit a bit lower than a G35s or Xs when side by side.

Have any of you noticed the same issue? Our front suspension has no camber adjustment. Is there some way to avoid this without getting a camber kit, which I'm assuming isn't cheap?
