Question about Installed paddle shifters.

when you have the factroy installed paddle shifters, you can use them even in D mode and do not have to change to the DS mode. And i think but i am not sure, when you use them in D mode, after a while it reverts back to the D mode from the gear number in the screen.

Do the installed paddle shifters perform the exact same way as the factory installed paddle shifters do?

Yes, they operate exactly the same. They are the same parts performing the same function to the same transmission.

Hey,

I haven't really posted here but really want to add paddle shift. I need your help, my wife wants to buy this as a gift for me, but not sure if it will work on my car (and need to know the color I need to buy).

Here is a snap of the interior:

so first, am I getting the Stone/Willow color or should I go for the Graphite / Black? I haven't seen pics on the differences. I don't want to spend $200 on the wrong one.

2nd - I want to make sure my car has the wiring without removing the steering wheel. I bought the car used (it is a 2007 G35) but don't have anything on paper that tells me the model number. I have to check my paperwork again. I think I have almost all the features with exception of it being AWD. It has the hard drive, XM, intelligent cruise control. I have read the Sport models do not have the wiring. How do I figure out what model I have? Thanks in advance!

Also - who is still selling the kit that I can be referred to? I see that guy Jason no longer works at the dealer everyone was buying from. I have this link saved in my bookmarks:

http://www.infiniti-parts.com/catalo...dle%20Shifters

The two options from this website is Graphite/Black and Stone/Willow. Which one do I need for my car?

Has anyone stripped the torx bolts?

On the steering wheel, How did you get them out? I’m thinking a can drill off the top of the bolt.

drill them out & then use a re-tap tool in holes for new treads.

Wait drill them out? Are you talking about someone that stripped the bolds? Also, what is a Torch Wrench? Or did you mean a Torx screwdriver set???

I used a torx bit on a power drill to unscrew the bolt, not to drill out the bolt. That sucker was on there super tight. Not sure if I could have broken it loose w/o power tools.

How much torque is on this thing? Is a cordless drill good enough or does it need more power???

You need a tamper proof torx bit and my recommendation is to unscrew them by hand with a regular screwdriver with a torx bit. They are on there tight !

He stripped it.....either careless or wrong bit.

try a reverse bit rather than drilling it out. Try not to damage the bore.

You don't need any power tools to do this project. If you don't know what a Torx bit is, don't do this.

Smile Removal of Stripped Torx bolt

Thanks for all your help.

I got it out with no problems wish I had done this on the first place. I tried all the reverse screw removers I could get my hands on, they just stripped the head of the bolt even more. I got it out by doing the steps.

First I used a bit that was small enough to fit inside the torx hole and removed the center pin and then I used a bit the was a little smaller then the top of the bolt and removed the whole top of the bolt.

Second I tapped the bolt threw the hole with a punch and small hammer. The mounting points of the air bag are just thin pieces of medal and can move.

Once I got the airbag out I was able to get the bolt out the rest of the way with a pair of pliers and did not damage the threads on the Air Bag. All of this took about 10min. I fallowed the rest of instructions and finally finished installing the paddle shifters.
