Just FYI, I did this in my 2010 G37 Sedan Journey and the DYI remains accurate. It works perfectly.

Thanks!

Completed on my 2010 G37x

Hey all. I took the plunge and bought a Graphite Shadow '10 G37x. My only regret is not splurging for the "S" package. With that said, found this thread to add paddle shifters. I received the shipment yesterday and installed them last night in about 1.5 hours. I encountered one problem. I got some of the red Loctite on the top trim piece resulting in turning the black piece yellow. It looks like someone took a yellow highlighter and dabbed on the plastic. My car is 3 weeks old and I am a bit peeved at my inattention to detail. Anyone have any thoughts on how to remove this yellowing of the graphite trim? I tried water with mild soap and a light dabbing of a "Mr. Clean Magic Eraser." Any thoughts or suggestions is much appreciated!

I do have another option, I can replace the top trim piece, but I cannot figure out how to remove the cloth (vinyl/plastic?) piece the attaches to the top trim piece covering the steering column. Any thoughts on this as well?

Use Back to Black, it's for darkening exterior plastic when it gets grey. If that doesn't work, you could use a sharpie to blacken. Then, back to black could give it all an even shine/finish.

I tried this mod myself, but I was having a terrible time removing the first two screws (T30 tamper-proof bit) I stopped after noticing I was taking off some of the thread. Did anyone else have this problem with supertight screws?

Thanks

You need to go to store like Sears and buy the tamper proof bit for a couple of bucks. You cannot take off the screws without this little bit.

I am using that bit though (essentially a torx bit with a hole in the center right?). I got a set from Autozone for $10

Yea, sounds like you got the right one. The only thing that I can think of is that you don't have the right size, but other than that the screw should come out pretty easy.

maybe a stupid question, but should I be twisting it clockwise or counter-clockwise then? I'm using t30 though I read another thread that said the bit should be t27. I might try some loctite too.

Lefty = Loosy (counter cw), Righty = Tighty (cw). I used the T30 when installing mine.

This mod is awesome! This might be a silly question but which paddle switches up and which switches down? Are the cables long enough to connect to either paddle?

I believe for all cars with paddles, the right one is upshift and the left one is downshift. If you wanted to switch this up the cables should be long enough to plug into the opposite plug, not really sure why you want to but to each their own.

I recently installed paddles on my car - without removing the steering - i did not have the B@llz to remove the wheel. Took me 15 minutes total for the upgrade.
So, i did not need the tamper poof thing.
