safest upsize on oem 19's should be 245/35/19 and 255/40/19. end of discussion.

you can go larger, ie 265 and 275, but as forewarned in this thread many times, it is not safe on the oem wheel.

any reason why you're going for 45 in the rear? it'll be too tall in the rear.

if i were you and i wanted 225/40 in the front, i'd just stick with the 245/40 for the rear.

Wow, long thread but I read through it all. So here's what I'm debating for my stock '05 6MT coupe:

1) What brand? Toyo T1-R's (which is what I've got on now but at the OEM sizes) or the Michelin PS2's? Price difference is really only $200-$300 but if the PS2's are guaranteed to last 45k miles, then the PS's would be a better buy in terms of treadwear. But will I lose performance vs the T1-R's or are they pretty close? I don't track my care but am a "spirited" daily driver.

2) What size? Like I mentioned, I'm currently running the OEM sizes so that's the 225/40 fronts and the 245/40 rears right? I'd like to try the recommended 245/35 fronts and the 255/40 rears but I'm wondering what the differences would be between that and the OEM sized tires (assuming the same brand)? I'm interested in all aspects of a daily driver but looking at performance as well so things like spirited cornering, tread life, noise, comfort, fuel efficiency, etc.

i have 245/255's
falken 452's
quiet on road noise, tread life is rated at 300 (anything above 300 is good)
performance wise, car handled and drove the same. best thing price was cheaper to go wider than to stay stock size.

your just over thinking this whole tire size, just get 245/255's and youll love the set up. also get some wheel spacers and your set.

[QUOTE=LightsOut;4215869]i have 245/255's
falken 452's

How do these compare on gas mileage to the stock 19's. I am also concerned with tire life. Any comments.

falken 452 have way more tire life than oem's

oems are rated at 200 i believe

as for gas mileage, its really hard to say cause it depends on your foot. overall right now i get about 20 mpg daily driving. On long drives, say to Las Vegas i get about 26 or so.

PS2s > > > >>>>>>>>> T1-Rs and worth the money. PS2s will not last 45k though.

well you cant really compare that number "200" or whatever across the different tire brands. From my knowledge the different brands rate their tires on a different system so it would be pointless to compare the numbers across different brands

good question!

right now i have 245/255 with 15/20 mm spacers lowered on Z h techs. i have no rubbing issues. i've bee thinking about 20/25 spacers also.

With my setup i think if i did go 20/25 ill most likely need to roll my rear fenders. I was gonna try and put my 20 mm up front to see also if i would rub up front. but waiting....

from what i was also told and researched the higher the tread number the longer the tire lasted for daily use.

Since oem's are rated at 200 and they didnt last long for many people and other tires are rated at 300+ had better feed back on how long they lasted.

if you run wide rear tires you might as well run 235/40/19 or 245/40/19 in the front
