What I mean is you cannot use anything wider on the rear due to the wheel not being wide enough. If you have something other than stock wheels then that changes the whole conversation. Unfortunately I've asked around and no one seems to know what the diameter tolerance is for the car.

Hmmm, OK. On the OEM 19 thread, it seems there are a number of folks running 255 on the rear without any issues. I would think you could do that if it's OK to run 245 on an 8" wheel (OEM 18's do that). Also, most 255 tires on Tire Rack list approved rim width as 8.5"-10".

Really haven't found a 255 that does not upset the VDC. Some can get away with it some cant. For the very minimal difference in tire width, that you probably would not notice performance wise, it's best to keep the 245's you already know fit.

Neal,
Which other high-performance summer tire do you recommend for a 2007 G35 sedan with the sport package? I am trying to decide if I should stick to the Potenza 050a or move to something else. Is there another size which will work on the 18" sport rims?

Thanks

If I have an 06x, Can I run a 225/55-17 spare if the other 3 tires are 245/40-19.

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
225/55-17 4.9in 13.4in 26.7in 84.0in 754 0.0%
245/40-19 3.9in 13.4in 26.7in 83.9in 755 -0.1%

It's just the diameter that has to match in order for the AWD to not have issues, correct? The 19s would be Rays Rears and the 17 would be a factory wheel (6 spoke) I don't know the width but they would be slightly staggered. It would just be used as a spare but I want to make sure that would work.

Not much to choose from really. If you didn't have any complaints on the oem I'd stick with that. If you want a little more life I'd look at the B-Stone RE-760's.

I wouldn't run an extended amount of time on it, but they have the same outside diameter so all should be fine. Car may handle a tad odd with the narrower tire and differ wheel but you'll get that with any spare unless it's exact size. Due to the width/offset difference I'd follow the 50mph for 50 mile temp spare rule.

What tires would you recommend for a setup of front 19x9.5 +12 and rears 19x10.5 +12? I want to tuck the top of the tire and retain camber as close to stock as possible within reason. So basically I want a bit of a stretch but nothing extreme.

245/30-20 / 275/30-20 are the sizes we recommend, but the 245's are really only designed for up to a 9" wheel.

Best size we show is 285/35-19 with a 255/35-19 up front.

This is for an '04 G35 Coupe. 245/45R18 for back and 225/45R18 for front.

Willing to spend up to $1,000 for a set of 4.
The Bstone 960s are great in the city but forget about it when on the highways. The sidewalls are way too soft and I'm sorry I got them. I'm switching over to the Bstone 760s. If you want a summer feeling tire on an A/S tire, look at the michelin pilot sport A/S, as they have a stiff sidewall.

Hi. Time for new spring/summer/fall tires! I have one question, possibly a naive one. I prefer tire design that is slightly wider/flared at the rim, which overhangs the rim edge slightly (see image). I believe this is called a "raised rim protector", to protect the rims from curb damage. The Blizzak LM-60s that I purchased from TR.com last fall do have this design and I like it. Will I find the raised rim protector edge on all tires of this size, or do some manufacturers have it, but not others? How can I tell from the TR.com website? Thanks!

I'd say 98% of the tires in the oem sizes have a rim protector. I don't think there's way to see that online, but it's quite common in 50 series and shorter profiles.
