DIY: Upgrade your ugly FOB to a nicer Infiniti Smartkey
Hey guys, I got a few more pm's about doing this mod for them. I am sorry to say that I cannot do this anymore since I can't test the units anymore. My car was stolen on December 10th and they found it on January 3rd. The car was crashed and stripped so it looks like my insurance is going to total it out. Since I don't have my car and wont be able to test the units I won't be doing this mod anymore because I only want to send out units that I know is working. Sorry guys, if you need any advice on this mod feel free to ask.

im not sure if it will accept it. Have people done it before?
I would personally prefer that route too.
I bought one of these remotes last night, im planning on taking my spare key with the transponder and making it fit in the key slot the fob has. That way it will start the car and look a lot like the honda keys.

I realize you wont be able to have a key chain or anything but I actually prefer that since i dont have any keys anyways (my Z is just a summer car to drive around every so often).
I think it looks like an awesome alternative, if i cant program the remote I will go the soldering route as suggested here.
PS. I already have the switchblade key, it works great but its a little awkward to start the car with (the angle).
I also bought the UK key and it works well as well for those that are interested in doing that mod. You have to make a few modifications to make it work, the UK and most of europe use 433mhz for their remotes whereas our cars use 314mhz to meet FCC requirements. Long story short, you have to change the frequency of the UK key by swapping the SAW frequency filter with one that works at 314mhz (FCC north america). This way you wont break any radio laws either. Pics available upon request, extremely small soldering gun is needed but its not impossible, the key will then be accepted by the car.
Close up of remote without key inserted (key actually is the same as ours, the normal keys have a thread at the end so they fit DIRECTLY into this remote, i didnt even have to cut the blank it came with so you just need to buy the remote off ebay.uk for a few pounds (14 pounds total incl shipping) and your good to go. Transponder transfers in.

Whole uk key, sorry its so small, i can take a pic of mine if needed. these are off the net.

These keys work for the following vehicles when searching ebay
- x-trail
- micra
- 350z
most come from the nissan micra. They only have open and lock buttons but really do we need anything else? I wish it was just a bit sleeker in its design but its neat vs our oem keys on the non-intellikey 350z/g35.
Good luck guys, awesome ideas
