Why are you guys reseting the ECU. What is it when you disconnect you negative cable on you battery for about 5 mins. I think thats one way cause when i installed my intake. I disconnected my Mass Air Sensor, and they said to disconnect my negative battery cable (with positive still connected) for about 5 mins. to reset the computer.

IMO, I think the ecu reset, via pedal method, somewhat resets the ecu or atleast resets the learned shirt algorithm of the tranny.

I have an 03.5 which has the adaptive algorithm learning tranny, and as far as I know the 04+ don't. That being so, it seems that if you drive normally and calmly then the tranny and possibly ecu will learn that accordingly give out only so much power or response or whatever it is. If you were to drive the card hard practically all the time the tranny, and possibly ecu, will learn that and either give you more power or more response etc. I got this idea after having driving the card hard for like 10-20 mins and noticing that the shifting, power, and response was much better than it was when I'd drive normally.

I feel that once I reset it, the car feels more spritely and snappier. I now end up doing it atleast every week because lets face it, I don't drive hard all the time. Once I reset it, it feels like the response, power, peppiness come back.

I was just reading the first few posts and concur with one of the earlier posts about the tranny and/or ecu learning your driving characteristic for about a week. This may only be true for the ~03 b/c of the adaptive tranny.

What do you guys think?

it worked

i did this easy ECU reset and at first i was confused about if i ended it right... i held the gas for about 10 seconds and the engine light began to blink faster a few times then back to slower? so i let off... started the car and drove a mile or so full speed ahead and it seems to be more responsive... my car has over 30k miles so if the ECU hasnt been reset yet i'm glad i finally did (i'm the second owner)
anyways i would say thumbs up to this method... whether it really worked or i'm imagining the improvements doesnt matter cause even if it's my imagination it puts a bigger smile on my face when i'm shuttin up Z's... which i like to call G35s for people with only one friend and lack of style
jk props to Zs too

I have tried and tried this, with no luck, the 5 in 5.. do you just do the 5 presses and immediately go to the next step or wait the 5 seconds, so if the 5th press is done on second 3, do you floor it immediately after, esentially press 6 that is held for 10 seconds, even if you are doing it at second 4 in that 5 second window?

Hey! Instead of reseting the ECU by pressing pedal why don't you try to disconnect the battery and leave it for about 5-10 minute and put it back.
See if it work...let me know.

I just did this, it worked like a charm on the second try! big thanks to to OP! The reason my light was on, is I put on a TB spacer, and after I plugged it back on my light came on.

Thumbs up

For some reason my vehicle immobilization kicked in (it may have been me arming my home security system?) and I had to do the immobilization reset to start my car, after that the SES light came on.

It took me 6 tries to get the "easy gas pedal reset" to work - it turned off my service engine soon light. I think that the 3 seconds has to be after all the dash lights are on and the 7 seconds has to be pretty accurate - so if it does not work for some of you, keep trying.

By the way, googling I found that Nissan Sentras are reset the exact same way.

Thanks everyone here for great information !!!

Took me a few on the procedure last time I reset, but got it after a while.

Battery disconnect I don't do b/c hate redoing my station pre-sets and re-programing my home-link, but that's me.....
