As for the break in... I've been totally limp without the uprev GT. Was supposed to smash through that barrier last week but MNR is having some trouble getting it on the dyno. It's not their shop, so they have to play by someone else's rules. It should be on mid-week so we'll see!
I asked them if they were going to push it and that really isn't their objective. "The car is going to put down what it puts down- we're just going to make sure it does so efficiently and safely. We're not going to be pushing for big numbers" was the jist of what they told me. I'm happy with that... at least until Intec gets their hands on it again. By then I should have saved up enough money for another new engine
I'll make sure I don't send you a text!

Oil cooler time...
Well, I was asked an interesting question this morning about what kind of oil cooler I have.
Very interesting question since I didn't have an answer not because I didn't know but because I did in fact know I don't have one.
So I've looked at a variety of coolers just while perusing an innocent and guideless google search and came up with ideas like THIS and THIS...
I'm sure there are P for plenty of options out there... so now I'm scanning the marketplaces for reliable options but to be honest I'm not really too sure about what is expensive and good and what is just branding... I'm seeing 4-500 dollar + price tags on these things and that is what it is, but I'd like to start being a bit more responsible with how much I'm spending when equal / better alternatives are just a couple mouse clicks away.
I did some researching on catch cans too and to my limited understanding of what they actually do I'm not under the impression that with no consumption issues, a new-ish engine and sub 50k miles... sounds like a waste of money.
The oil cooler, however, sounds like a reasonable investment to help guaranty the longevity and health of the build as it gets put through its paces which, especially once the quaife is installed and numbers are upwards of 500hp, it invariably will be.
So... oil cooler feedback anyone?!

YOU DONT HAVE AN OIL COOLER!???
wow, after seeing how hot these engines get, I would recomend oil cooler for NA let alone any FI car.
maybe it's cause I'm in Texas and we had like 100 days over 100 degrees again but I monitored oil temps before I was FI and it was between 220-260F depending on how hard I was getting on it. After the oil cooler it won't break 220F and I'm supercharged!!
Makes a big difference, also these temps were recorded on the street. I can't imagine tracking without an oil cooler.
The catch can is good at any mileage. Your engine was designed to burn blow by (oil in the vapors from the crank case) put a catch can in there so it just recirculates air and doesn't get oil in your intake track. Oil in your intake track makes for a dirty intake down the road which is not good for performance. and being FI you will have higher crank case pressures meaning more blow by.

Cmon rob! You read the whole thread- did you see me say anywhere that I got one?
Hmmm. Maybe catch can is a good idea? Though I'm reading a lot of guys saying there a waste of money or selling them. But- I'm not set in stone at all- just want to stick within some practical boundaries. I mean- a person could never stop buying things that would make it better in the long run but at some point I need to develop a list of nice to haves versus need to haves lest my engine blow up and the world slam to a halt and fling us into space.
Just sayin

Catch can - If you have enough blow by to make embarrassing smoke, then def. get one -- i consider them optional for low boost <16psi on a healthy engine.
Oil cooler - mandatory. Why risk it?

Personally I'd go DIY. The kits are way overpriced and the coolers themselves are quite small.

And if you didn't cut out or remove your crash bar like the guy in that thread did, it's alot easier to mount. Mine screws right into the bottom of the crash bar, no hacking together a mounting system needed.

yeah I pieced mine together for less than $300... also make sure you get AN-10 lines, most kits come with -8, the -8 is probably OK but why add any possible restriction in the lifeblood of your engine?

Thanks DJ and Rob... Again, you guys both know I'm car retarded so wouldn't be able to put anything together myself but I'm sure MNR could string something together for me with their existing stock of parts and lines.
Quick update... car was on the dyno on Tuesday apparently but they got up to wastegate pressure (10-12psi I think) and had something to the tune of 370 / 380 hp/tq (dyno reads notoriously low) but when they went to up the boost (Apexi AVC-R controller is installed) apparently they experienced a boost leak and had to terminate the pull as the fuel got very rich and power was lost. Sounds like Jurie got it fixed up and ready to go again for another shot this afternoon. Hoping it goes well. Wishing them luck with it and some solid, safe numbers (for now)
