Actually, I think I'm going to blame Driver! Oh yeah, and swivel because he's the local ambassador! Darn you swivel!

Okay, so I've done some research on what it takes to build up a bottom end. One of the threads I came to was discussing how much abuse the stock block can take. It has some back and forth in it- but overall the message was reassuring:

Sorry I haven't messed around enough with the link feature. Maybe this will work? https://g35driver.com/forums/forced-...35-engine.html

The short story is they're talking about working a stock motor up through 6psi to 18psi before it finally blew at about 550whp. MOST seem to agree that with a twin turbo 8-10psi is the "average" safe range. Considering the most I'm going to track my car is on the highway between Sidney and Victoria- driving with the erotic confidence that I have enough horses under the hood to replace all the ones killed by the Calgary stampede over the last 15 years. I don't need to turn challengers inside out- but I could

Uh oh- I'm not even FI yet and I'm already full of hot air.
i really dont think you have to worry if you are staying at wastegate pressure (10 psi). your motor will be just fine... providing you have a good tune.

^ Agreed. Also, I don't know what your long term plan is, but if you decide to rid of the G and the turbo comes out, you are left with a needlessly built motor thats not really of any worth to the average buyer. If you leave it all together, you are facing a much smaller demographic and will take a massive bath - well you will regardless. Nature of the beast, but i digress... And, I don't know what manifolds you are using, but if the motor doesnt have to be lifted, don't until you need to.

Dont worry Ian. The hot air doesnt stop 'till your back to driving a low power N/A motor and you get spanked by your moms Toyota SUV.

Wait, did I say that out loud? Fvck.

Okay... well I've been laying off of this for a bit now because I had to wait until this week before I could get this project off the ground. What's happened is the shop I'm getting the work done at (Progressive Automotive) only has a few guys in the shop- two of them are REAL sharp with these kinds of projects and one of them is a keen apprentice who is just finishing up school. The apprentice typically works on a lot of the normal day to day stuff... so having him gone took a lot of attention away from my project. They elected to wait until he got back before getting down to it.

I was more than happy to do that.

I talked with the apprentice before he headed back to school and he was really switched on. Having him involved in the project will be pretty exciting and I'm happy that he'll get to be involved in it working with two great guys who can show him how to do things right.

I haven't made any further purchases pertaining to the turbo... I take the parts in tomorrow for review!

(Excited again!)

Dropped most of the parts off today... save for the intercooler and a box full of stuff relating to the gauges that I didn't notice. Apparently I'm bringing the car in on Monday and leaving it with them... and that's it. Next time I drive it it'll be a whole new car.

I was tremendously helpful throughout the transaction. As he picked through the boxes he asked "Does the kit come with the oil lines?"
Silence. He subsequently found them- at which point I asked, "Is that them?"
He then asked "how did these marks end up on the turbo?"
Silence.
"How many waste gates do you want? This is a waste gate, and this is a waste gate."
Silence.

I did manage to ramble a bit about not wanting to overbuild the engine because of something mentioned up top in this thread... then I probably recited the alphabet- the only two things I was sure of right then.

He closed with a "this should be fun" and didn't say it with a sarcastic tone. I think finally now that the parts are there and the date is set, the project is "for real" and I'm not some monkey wandering into his shop trumpetting about this "twin turbo project I'm thinking of."

Great to hear the project is getting underway. I may have missed it, how long do they think the build will take?

not sure how I missed this thread... I'm more curious to know what the invested $$ figure will be at the end of this whole debacle, and how it long it runs for before it blows up

It could quite possibly run without a hitch for the rest of its days. It's not like he's strapping a turbo on a hi comp Honda motor. Part of me wants to think datsun bought the design from the French for the fact that the engines engineering entailed boost friendly properties, and that datsun themselves may have gotten carried away with a turbo model or six. The other part of me thinks that's a stupid idea and that I should go soak my head. Or something. Don't mind me.

Well- that's it. Dropped the car off and handed over the keys. Left a camera there too so that while I'm gone they can take photos. They seem pretty happy to have the project and figure they can start as early as today!

First hitch though- apparently there's a wiring harness that is missing. It's a harness that gets tied into the ECU from JWT to correct timings and such. It's missing, but whether or not it's needed with the Cobb being there- not sure. I have to talk to the guy I bought it from and see what the story is there- or worst case is order a new one.

I was talking to the new guy about it and he wasn't 100% sure what the deal is there- but otherwise it looks like everything is there.
