Everyone: Check Your Oil!
#1202
They want to look for signs of how this is happening so they can try to get this covered under the power train warranty. I asked if this would constitute a new engine and they said no most they will replace with a short or long block.
My questions: What kind of block does my car have? And what should I fight for, replacing short or long block?
Not sure if the car has them both. Sorry for being nieve.
Any info you feel is relevant to this post please feel free.
Thanks,
JC

Just an update. After investigating the engine the dealership requested that I get new engine. Two weeks later after having the loaner they called me and said my G was ready to be picked up. I ask the tech about break in and he said take it easy for couple thousand miles and don't floor it. You should be fine. And to follow up on the engine oil. So far car is running smooth again.
I will keep a close on it for while and hopefully no more oil consumption.
Thanks for providing this information.
My car had only 40k original miles.

Hey it is true about the problem with the engine.... i had to rebuilt a 2006 Infiniti g35 motor at my shop for the same reason... Guess what the dealer didnt want to warranty it and the car only had 27,000 miles on it.. One more thing i notice when i pull apart the motor was that the was extra sealer from the engine in the sump, causing blocking of oil to the oil pump... For this the engine carnk shaft had broke causing engine lock up....

If the engine is consuming excessively they shouldn't deny you.

i'm new here, and I just came accross this thread. I have an 07 G35x with the vq35hr. does this revised version have this oil issue?? (don't get me wrong, I read the first few pages of the thread, but it's 81 pages long!) I got the car a week ago, and it's at the dealer now it only has 22k miles on it, but since I got it used from a non-infiniti dealer I figured they should check it over while warranty is still in effect, so I'm getting the 30k mile check up/tune up w/oil change.

I figured I'd comment on this thread to share my OC story...
So I bought my 05' 6MT G35 coupe in December 07 and I noticed that after the 1st oil change that a really noticeable "knocking/pinging" sound started coming from my engine. I took it to my local Nissan dealership and had them look at it to make sure all of the obvious stuff was ok, including a oil check. After getting the thumbs up from the dealership I was told it could be the bearings in my pulleys acting up and to have the Infiniti dealer I purchased the car from take a look at it to be sure. So I took the car to the dealership which I purchased the car from (120+ mile drive one way) and was informed that my engine was critically low on oil. So low in fact the service manager stated it was almost in the condition where they needed to rebuild the engine. Not good news to say the least. So I was told that my car would be given 3 chances to prove that it was consuming too much oil, an oil consumption test. I'm happy to say after my 2nd test (yesterday) I was informed I would be receiving a brand new engine with 0 miles on it. I just hope this one holds up better than the original. The service manager said I was 1 of 3 people who he has personally dealt with that have received the same. I've read some other people's stories about overfilling and pretty much just straight up lying to customers about the level of oil during these tests, I guess I just got lucky with a really cool service rep. but it was undeniable that my engine had a problem.

It's been some it's been some 14 months and 12,0000 miles later, since Infiniti replaced my oil consuming engine. The original factory engine was consuming oil at a rate of 1 quart per every 1000 miles. It took over a year to resolve. However, I am please to say that the new engine is running like a champ with NO consumption issues. Whew! Finally!
