Trust me I would love to. I posted maybe 2-3 months ago on this thread stating the dealer wanted to see records of oil changes (since I DIY since oil change #2). I argued that the TSB didn't require ANY service records whatsoever, but it didn't get me very far. I would love to try to twist their arms, but maybe I'll go to another dealer.

I'm convinced that this generation VQ motor had a faulty valve seal design. So a motorswap might not even fix it. My maxima never took a drop of oil and I baby this car by comparison. I think I'll just change it because my fiance's car is due and I'm shopping for oil today.

^I remember you now. Yeah that's BS about the oil history thing they're pulling. Guess keep topping it off or go to a different dealer for testing.

I'm convinced my replacement's heads were built on a hung-over Monday. These are supposed to have revised valve guide seals along with correct spec'd rings. I'm the only one I've found so far with my current issue in the valvetrain. My original heads were much better than what was given to me on replacement. Replacement's bottom-end and rings are solid on mine.

I have a 05 with similar mileage. I'm due for an oil change soon and will have a consumption test from now on with each oil change. Good luck

Did your dealer ask for records for EVERY oilchange you've had? Do you have to pay for an oilchange from Infiniti before you do a consumption test?

To V35 Skyline GT: sorry to hear about your continuing problems. I believe my old maxima was made on a wednesday. It was simply awesome (14.05sec in the 1/4mi, >25mpg). I put up with this because I only use about 1qt more or less every 5,000mi which is OK for now. I'm going to have to do something more aggressive about it in the near future.

How about the guys with 2006 models ... is your engine using lots of oil ??

This reminds me of first year Z06 Vettes which had a piston ring issue ... they would burn a qt of oil every 800 to 1000 miles. Fix was redesigned rings ... not too hard for the factory to fix IMO so it's hard to believe that Infinity would let this issue continue.
My 06' is a monster with eating oil. I put 5L of oil in on my oil change when I drained I had 1.8L i was scared ****less when I seen that. Im about to call my service manager and have them check it out.

I got my 06 6MT in Feb 09 and in March discovered it was consuming oil. Did the dealer test for a couple of months and it was confirmed and they put in a new engine right away. Since there was not proof of previous oil changes (I had just bought the car!) they were told by "corporate" to drop the drain pan and send pics in. If there was no sludge they would change the engine, if there was sludge, no go. There was no sludge.

here are some facts because many manufacturers have trouble meeting CAFE regulations they are using very light oil such as 0W5 they are also using very light expander springs behind the OIL control ring on the piston..
these two things will allow a motor to use more oil under high rpm conditions.
Never heard of 0w-5 motor oil.

CAFE reg's: you're correct, but that's manufactures that spec oil to be a multi 20 weight. Ours are spec'd for multi 30 or 40. There is truth about the ring pack design though. Nissan/Infiniti had their hands tied about that one with the DE block design.

When these VQ's are defective oil burners, 10w-30 makes very little difference in consumption rate.

2005-2007.5 6MT's. Those have the revup VQ's which have a TSB for excessive OC.

This is making me want to get a 2003 or 2004 and deal with having an older, highe miles car for the peace of mind knowing i'll likely not have to replace the motor several times in the years i own the car.

Mine is a 2004 and is a burner! If your looking to buy check the tailpipes if the insides are excessively greasy and black its a OC car.
