^ I'm in the same boat and the dealer won't cover the '03-'04 years most likely, so I'm left with a DIY - hope it will fix this issue.

Taking my car to the dealer on Tuesday for the "Hard to fill issue" I do have an extended warranty though. I'll let you know how it goes.

I haven't been on this site for years. Probably ever since I got my G35 in 04. I am starting to have fuel guage problem recently at 43K miles. I believe the fuel guage recall was for 500K cars but none of which was for G35 model. The same thing happend to my cousin's car about a years ago at 35K miles. I just went ahead and made a complaint to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in hopes that they will investigate this problem. Maybe if we get enough people to submit their complaint maybe Nissan will extend the replacement to G35 as well. If anybody is interested you can go to their website to make the complaint on line. It sure doesn't hurt to try.

Here is the website:

Have had the same problem for years on my 03, but its gotten much worse lately. Tank never reads full, and now goes straight down to empty after about 50 miles, and stays there. I'm going to attempt the "cleaning" fix tonight and will try to take some pics and post them if it works.

Mine has the same problem. It only takes about 16 gallons, and the meter reads 7/8 full. Something is terribly wrong because the G35 is supposed to hold 20 gals.

Well did the cleaning, not sure if it worked yet, need to see how the needle drops over the next week, but so far so good. Pretty easy actually, but highly recommed anyone try it with tank at half or less, otherwise gas WILL be spilled. Pics to follow.

Drivers side. Remove back seat and cloth cover. Four tabs hold this plate. Just turn them and it comes off.

Remove the wire harness, and the plate can be moved out of the way. Then there are phillips head screws holding the sending unit inside the tank. Keep a rag handy at this point and be well ventilated

Carefully lift the unit up. There is a long metal arm holding the float unit. Where the arm connects to the main body is a little board that you can use a q-tip to clean. Mine didn't look dirty until I wiped it with the q-tip, but hopefully that is where the problem is, because there is not a whole lot else going on on this thing.

The passenger side unit includes the fuel pump, so its a little harder. You have to squeeze the tabs at the end of the fuel line, then push it off. Keep the rag handy as fuel WILL come out if there is any residual pressure.

Then pull the unit out carefully, as its a pretty tight fit. The metal arm and cleaning spot are the same as the other side, though this piece is a bit more unweildy.

Be careful not to lose the o-ring in the tank! Replace and good luck. If this works, its a pretty easy fix <fingers crossed>. Only took about 20-30 minutes.

one: a full tank on my G35 reads 1/8 over full on the dash.

two: i can't put in gas properly, the pump will shut off intermittently even when gas tank is not full. Had everything but the gas tank replaced, nothing. Went to replace the gas tank, so far so good.
