I got a ticket for this from a NJ trooper and couldn't believe that my 05 was having this issue already. We should also get a formal complaint thread going for the compression rods, seems like a lot of people are having early problems with those as well. Anyway, I filled out the form so you could add me to the list.

How long are these lights really supposed to last? I mean my 06 is only 4 years old and doing this...but the 2003s are 7 years old. At what point should the cutoff be? If these were 15 year old cars with LEDs dying...would we care as much?
^A lot of times, It's not the LEDs failing, it's the entire unit.
When mine works, all the LEDs light. IOW mine is all or none... most of the time none

But compression rods aren't a safety issue. They might be noisy, but unless there is a gross failure, it's not really a safety issue.

Brakes lights not working is a safety issue and inspection/ticket able issue.

^ Yep

But I also wonder when the cut off is, 5 years 6 years 7 years? I just went out for a drive and the light was out the whole time.

My car was made in 5/05 so its 5years 6 months old. The LED's them selfs work fine. Its the electronic board connected to them that is having the issues. It seems.

That's the big question. What's the industry acceptable standard for LED lighting to work??

I mean bulbs fail, and we are on our own to fix them if it's outside warranty. Are LED's designed to last the life of the vehicle? They sure are marketed that way. But at what point are we truely on our own??

A lot of Caddys that had the early LED bar across the trunk (STS??, SLS??) have LED problems with them. But as far as i can see, no recall for that. So are we SOL?

If we are, would be nice if someone could buy these in bulk and market them at a good price. I really don't want to pay $200 for a LED brake light. Bring it down to the $100 range and I will though.

I know it;s a board issue for most...but pulling the light out is a PITA in itself. Rather do it once and be done for sure

if this thread is any indication, this is a common problem... being a safety issue it should not require extended warranty, it should be at least a TSB if not a recall... I just wonder why it's only being mentioned now?

Does anyone know the exact part that is faulty? There isn't much in the coupe section about this as compared to the sedans. I'm due for inspection next month and can't wait around for Infiniti to do something about it. Some people are replacing the entire unit. Some are just replacing individual LEDs. I read a thread about replacing diodes also. My entire strip is out, not just one or two LEDs.

Is there a consensus on the culprit?

I think the real problem is jus some shoddy build quality of lack of QC on this part because the problems with it are frequent, but also varied. For some the entire unit goes out, for many it's hit-or-miss, for others it's just individual LEDs, and for some it's both.

The LEDs that are blowing shouldn't be though. I've yet to see a G with a blown LED in the taillights, but have seen several with dead LEDs in the 3rd brake light.

I didn't know this was a huge problem, I thought my subwoofers had just knocked something loose/broke a connection. Mine seem to blink/flicker with the bass, so thats why I assumed that.

2003 Sedan. I'm from Canada, if something can be done or filled out on my end, let me know.

Do you have a capacitor on your system? Your LED's are blinking not because of the connection but because LED's need a certain amount of power to remain lit. You are drawing enough power to rob the LED's of what they need to remain lit. A capacitor will smooth out the power spikes and dips and help that problem go away.
