V35 G35x AWD general information, FAQ, helpful links
G35x AWD directory
There seems to be a lot of questions that are only pertinent to AWD so this thread is an attempt to make a central thread with general information and links.
In addition to this thread, another good source of information is https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sed...edan-faqs.html
Wheels
Stock wheels
2004
17” 6-spoke, 17x7, +45 offset
2005-2006
17” 7-spoke, 17x7, +45 offset
Stock tire size 215/55R17
Aftermarket wheels
There seems to be two reoccurring questions:
“Will these fit?”
Fitment is based on a lot of variables and desired outcome and is best left to the experts. Experts can be found here:
https://g35driver.com/forums/wheels-tires-25/
“Can I have staggered wheels with AWD?
Yes, you can have any type of wheels that you would like as long as the outside diameter of the wheels is the same such that the front and rear wheels turn at the same speed. If the wheels are spinning at different speeds premature wear/failure/damage could be caused to the transfer case.
It is also a good idea to replace all four tires at the same time. Worn tires will have a smaller diameter than new tires of the same size and manufacturer. Even if you replace with the same size, mixing worn tires and new tires can cause the wheels to spin at different rates.
Exterior
There is only one difference between the AWD’s exterior and the RWD’s exterior. The front bumper on the AWD has a small vent at the center for cooling.
All bodykits, bumpers, spoilers etc. made for RWD vehicles will fit AWD vehicles.
Note: there are differences between 03-04 and 05-06 body panels and bumpers and are not interchangeable.
Interior
There are no major differences between the RWD and AWD interior.
Because AWD is typically found in colder climates, many came with cold weather amenities. The center console will have switches for heated front seats and by the driver’s right knee, toward the underside of the dash will be a “Snow” button.
Under normal driving the AWD has a rear bias (more power goes to rear wheels) upon taking off and eventually switches all power to the rear wheels at higher speeds. The “Snow” button splits power between the front and rear wheels 50/50 to assist in getting through an area with loose packed surface.
Engine/Drivetrain
Engine modifications and aftermarket parts will fit no problem 99% of the time. AWD has the same engine as the RWD and the only problems are interference issues at the bottom and rear of the engine compartment
Transmission Grounding Wires
One main difference has been with adding a ground wire to the transmission. Some kits suggest a mounting point that is not easily accessible due to the front prop shaft running along the passenger side of the transmission.
https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sed...-wire-awd.html
Front Wheel Bearing
A common issue with AWD sedan is the added wear and tear on the front wheel bearings. Great DIY for replacing your own front wheel bearings
https://g35driver.com/forums/brakes-...-bearings.html
Front Axle Boot
A common issue with the AWD sedan after lowering it is the front axle boot will tear/rip, and can spew grease all over the fender liner etc. A good DIY showing the components being replaced.
https://g35driver.com/forums/drivetr...ot-change.html
Another common issue is on lowered AWD sedans, the front right half CV shaft/axle experiences the most stress causing the joints and/or boots to wear faster. Most of us cannot afford to have our cars down for two weeks at a time to ship the shaft out for a rebuild, and I was looking for a while who had a core exchange service available. The only place that I have found sofar who has a core exchange program is www.mypartsgarage.com. It is Cardone part #60-6282.

Exhaust
The AWD sedan has some adjustments to accommodate the transfer case.
Headers
More info needed
Catalytic converters (Cats)
Same as RWD
Y Pipe
The Y-Pipe is different due to the fact that it has to clear the transfer case. The RWD is not interchangeable.
Midpipe
Same as RWD
Muffler
Same as RWD
Aftermarket Exhaust
HR Y-pipe
The second generation sedans and coupes, as well as late 350z switched engines to the HR style engine (vq35hr, vq37hr). With the engine changes came exhaust changes and one popular part that is swiped off of them is the Y pipe. The HR style Y pipe is very similar to the one on first generation AWD sedans, and therefore has negligible benefits.
Aftermarket Y pipes that will fit AWD sedans
https://g35driver.com/forums/intake-...wd-sedans.html
Full exhausts that will fit AWD:
Stillen Gen 2
Add to list
Suspension
The rear suspension of the AWD is the same as the RWD. The front suspension is significantly different.
Sway Bars
Rear AWD sway bar is same as RWD.
The front sway bar is unique to the AWD sedan and there is currently only one product available (as of Jan '12)
Hotchkis pulled through and now has a front sway bar available. Link to Hotchkis site
Lowering your AWD sedan
This is a very popular subject and has been discussed in great detail in the thread below
https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sed...uspension.html
Some of the major information from this thread can be found below
Springs
Any springs that fit the G35, 350z, and G37 will physically fit the g35x. Some manufacturers go out of their way to say that their spring will not fit AWD, but they are wrong. Lowering springs adjust your ride height to a constant level. They are not adjustable
Disclaimer: lowering your vehicle inevitably causes added stresses to the suspension and will need replacement sooner, meaning, it will cost you more money than just the initial purchase.
The agreed upon rule of thumb for springs to lower the AWD sedan are:
RWD sedan advertised drop + ½” = AWD drop
G35 coupe advertised drop + 1” = AWD drop
350z advertised drop + 1 ½” = AWD drop
“What is the cheapest way for a mild drop?”
Put a nail through your tire. You will need money to lower your vehicle. A common route is to take the rear springs from a g35 coupe and the front springs from a 350z for a “G/Z” combo suspension.
Anytime you are lowering your vehicle it is a good idea to have the wheels aligned. The stock suspension components will only allow for a certain amount of adjustment, and after that you will need to purchase additional adjustable components (toe bolts, rear camber arms, front upper control arms).
Coilovers
The advantages of coilovers are they can be adjusted for ride height and suspension travel/ dampening.
Coilover Manufacturers:
BC Racing
Megan Racing
KSports
D2 Racing
Fortune auto
Struts
Any rear strut from the G35, 350z will physically fit the g35x. The front strut is unique and replacement options are limited. Another option is to send your existing shocks to a manufacturer to have them revalved, which is essentially having them custom made and can be cost prohibitive.
Front strut replacements
OEM, Nissan infiniti
KYB GR2 - F. Left #341380 F.Right #341379

Brakes
2004-2005 AWD sedan have one piston front brakes and one piston rear brakes. These are identical to the 2003-2004 RWD sedan
2006 AWD sedan have two piston front brakes and one piston rear brakes. These are identical to the 2005-2006 RWD sedan
Big Brake Kits
It is possible to take the Brembo brakes from a 2003-2004 coupe and mount them on a sedan. Note that you will have to change the calipers, rotors, mounting bolts on the caliper brackets, and brake lines.
It is possible to take the Akebono brakes from a 2008+up G37 and mount them on a sedan. There are some additional items that have to be switch as well.
Other brands, you are on your own to research.
Keep in mind, BBK's are larger than the stock calipers and rotors and therefore can cause clearance issues between the caliper and your wheels. You will need wheel spacers to keep your 17" wheels after installing a BBK.

I see a different option offered here for struts with Tokico D specs. Shows to be a kit for shocks and struts for the X. Anyone confirm this ?
