Who's Had Their Steering Wheel Replaced Due To Trim Peeling/Chipping?

I got my door pulls replaced at Infiniti of Cool Springs in Nashville--just a few blocks from Infiniti USA headquarters. They said no on the steering wheel though. In fact, they said those weren't warranty items to begin with, then said they would go ahead and replace the door panels.

I mentioned that many people were getting their steering wheels replaced too and he said it depended on the person in charge of warranty approval for their area. My steering wheel isn't terrible yet but it's getting worse all the time and my 07 will be out of warranty at the end of the summer.

Given what other people have said about calling Infiniti USA I doubt it will do me any good. Can I get a steering wheel from an 08 wreck? Did they change the steering wheel for 09?

^ No they didn't. It's still the same steering wheel design. Can you go to another dealer in your area to see if they would replace the steering wheel? I say you customize it! They are just going to replace it w/ the same material. I'll show you guys what i mean next month when i am done.

My service writer says he's going to lie, and say my volume buttons don't work. Why is this so inconsistent??

I took mine to Grubbs Infiniti not 2 weeks ago, and they replaced the steering wheel (the whole deal), and the 2 seat moldings no charge, no questions. Gave me a G37 loaner too. I highly recommend this dealer, they were professional, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy my next infiniti there.

I just don't want to go though that hassle w/ the same problem on the Steering wheel. Same goes for the door pulls. That rubber texture gotta go.

After reading this thread, I still don't know if there is a new type of 07/08 steering wheel that the paint won't peel off as easy.

Can anyone confirm?

Update: The volume buttons come separately, so to get the trim replaced, he's replacing the whole wheel. His explanation was that their Infiniti rep has cut them off from "good will" warranty fixes, saying they've lost too much money in the region. So lame!

It seems like it's made of harder plastic, but I'm not sure if it is or not. I don't want to try scratching the finish and find out that it's the same as the 07 wheel that I had that was chipped when I bought the car used.

Can anyone answer some basic questions about the warranty on Infiniti's? I purchased an 07 G35x with 55k miles and it now has 66k miles on it. I believe the factory warranty expires around 60k but I purchased the additional which is good till 125k. I'm not 100% certain how the extended warranties work. Would that cover something in regards to this?

On another note, has anyone found a work around for this problem or how to touch it up?

it depends on if your warranty is for powertrain only or bumper to bumper. I am getting my steering wheel replaced today under WRAP extended warranty, my car has 60.4k now. I hope i will get the newer version.

if to cover up the chipped paint, any black touch up paint will do.
if u cannot get door handle replaced for free, i would just go buy one for about $50 per side and install it yourself.

Just got my steering wheel replaced under warranty with new plastic faceplate that is without the soft paint on the top, so now there is no paint to be peeled off. However, the steering wheel itself is light/medium charcoal color which does NOT match door trim, steering column, everything else...as it is more of black color. To me, it looks ugly.

Anyone with steering wheel notice this? Original steering wheel was "black", now I got "charcoal".

Tech also did not align the steering column correctly, it is slightly off, very annoying as well.

Now waiting for Infiniti USA to call me back on settling with another dealer who will replace all 4 door handles under warranty.

Disappointed on the steering wheel replacement, dislike the color match issue.
