2007 G35 Horsepower Rating.
My local Infiniti dealer's General Manager
told me that he's been told that
the 2007 G35 currently has
a preliminary horsepower rating of 312 hp.
He said he was told to expect at least 310 but
currently it's looking like it will be 312.
He did say that that figure is yet to be certified under
the new SAE tests but in the tests that Infiniti has
done that's about what the hp number would be
and "should" be rated at.
He said they expect the sedans to start rolling in
in late October early November at this point.

Im really not suprised at all. It's very typical of Nissan to introduce a new engine with just barely more hp than competitors. Think when the 03 accord came out with 240 hp. Nissan juiced up the altima to 245. When the TL came out with 270, they juiced up the g35 to 280.
Just because an engine is 80 % new doesn't mean it's going to have some ridiculous amount of hp...Once you get past 300 hp in a mid-size v6, there really isn't much room to go unless you pour a whole lot more money into it for more expensive parts. And if 312 hp is rated according to new SAE standards, then the jump will be roughly 30 hp from the current G, which is a very respectable increase.
Also, Nissan likes to keep some hp in reserve, so they can juice up the ratings whenever a competitor comes out. All they're looking for are "best in class" bragging rights. I rest my case

That number does sound very conservative, but Nissan/Infiniti has always been very secretive until the actual car comes out, when it acutally does come out it will probably have more hp than that, 320-325. It makes since to not release their hp numbers to their competitors this early anyway.

If the 07 G is rated at 310 or 312 hp SAE net rev 8/04 as Infiniti is claiming, it is probably putting out a good 25-30 more hp than the 298 hp 06 VQ motor.
There's a reason why the 298 hp Gs aren't all that much faster than the older 260 and 280 hp versions.

Umm, to those who think the 312 hp rating is a "joke" that's funny.
When the new IS350 came out and got 306 hp with the new SAE
standard, people oohhed and ahhhed.
As I posted in this original post, 312 hp under the NEW SAE method is
equal to about 325-328 under the old system.
For a 3.5 liter V6 that isn't an expensive high revving motor like
the M3's 3.2 liter I6, that's a great number.
Also, keep in mind even BMW's M3 motor which is rated at 333 is under
the OLD system. That would be about 318 hp under the new and
with only about 255 ft-lbs of torque!!
The new VQ if it's rated at 312 hp (and say 280-290 torque) and
the car is priced only marginally higher in price (say $1K more)
that is a screaming deal for a sport sedan that should rip off
low 5's to 60 and mid 13's @ 104 mph in the 1/4.
For $38-40K loaded, that would be SWEET!!
