Do a Search.

Seems like the 'do a search' mantra that dominates this web site has gotten ridiculous. A poster recently started a thread about how tasteful painting OEM calipers was. The first and only reply was a staff member who linked to a 2 year old thread about color preference for calipers (not even the same topic at all), recommended doing a search and then closed the thread. Some of the people in the thread the staff member cited haven't posted in over a year!

I mean what was the OP supposed to do? Reply to the two year old thread and then get flamed for digging up an old post? Seems like it the staff might consider giving it a rest, maybe?

well, if you'd just search you'd know this topic has come up before.

j/k, yeah, it does get ridiculous sometimes when people just blindly tell people to search more. some topics have been discussed to death though (and many have no right or wrong answer anyway), so if the new thread is on one of those topics i have no problem with it getting shut down quickly. if nothing else, it reduces the amount of threads on a particular topic that are littered with useless info or endless posts of people telling the OP to search.

I'll reiterate what I sent to you via PM here. The "search" mantra has absolutely not been taken past a point of ridiculousness. The topic of painting OEM calipers has been discussed numerous times. I only chose to link one of the threads that came up when I searched on the topic because it was the most comprehensive discussion of the topic I could find and it happened to be 2 years old. The consensus, in numerous threads, is that black or silver (and maybe gold too) are the only colors recommended for painting stock calipers. No reason to draw attention tiny OEM calipers with bright colors. This general thought has not changed recently, as seen in other threads. Everyone does not hold this view, but as we've seen in numerous threads on this topic this is what the majority of people will tell you.

Nothing wrong with that IMO. I would have done the same thing. And as Mike pointed out, this is indeed one of those subjects that's been beaten to death.

on a side point, I haven't seen many complaints on here when people bump an old post if it's relevant to the subject.
They might get a little harmless ribbing over it, like a "holy thread revival batman" but never "don't bump old threads" kinda thing.

I think N80 accomplished his goal. That is to get someone else to search FOR him.
