I don't see your point. It provides a very aggressive yet factory look and just looks good in general. I'm pretty sure people also put aftermarket wheels, tint, lowering springs, exhaust and stereo into 80's sentras too.

You forgot about gas.

Seriously though. It looks nice, not outlandish. They look better than the factory tips and after 4 years the factory tips look like crap regardless if you have squashed them or not.

Also, what else should be done if the factory ones look like crap? I can't think of a better solution.

Of course! I was stating a fact though. I literally bolted on a "twin pipe" mod onto my 1983 Sentra back in '86...but I did it as a joke. This is different of course since it already is a "twin pipe".. I guess if your existing pipes are beat up then it is fine. Sorry, I just remember this was a big thing to do to your beater back in the mid-late 80s...

The difference between this "mod" and wheels, tint, etc. is this mod is a "poser" mod. That's what it is. The tailpipe is a lot smaller than it looks and there is no performance gain. Of course the stock tips are poser mods in themselves so you can argue that.

Tinting is a functional mod . Wheels can be functional but improve the look and the uniqueness a lot more.

You get my point. Do I think it is cheesy? Yes, the concept is but he pulled it off this time..well barely. Doesn't mean he won't get any grief for it. I think it looks ok but I wouldn't advertise it.

Oh and yeah of course I am a moron if I make a joke about "fat boy" tailpipes... Lighten up guys!

Yes, I get your point and so is the point DaveB and others are making. The change of the tips is, like you said, to improve the look and the uniqueness that the oem did not provide. It is a very economic way for many of us who don't have to pay hundreds of dollars for an aftermarket exhaust.

There are so many mods that are non-functional and they are purely for looks. Things like clear corner, roof spoiler, de-badging, etc....and these are certainly not cheesy.

That's fine, I guess if they are solely for looks, but to me adding big exhaust tips are analogous to putting a fake turbo hood scoop on your car - it is a poser mod. All of those others are strictly for looks. Like I said though, the tips stock are technically a poser mod...

Just my opinion, and it doesn't look too bad... I wouldn't post it to beaterz.com

I don't know if this link will work properly but try it out. You want the ones from the 2.5, that is what I ordered.

I respect your opinion. I also see the mod completely different than yourself. For me, the tips bring balance to the rear of the car and make the exhaust stand out a bit. It also gives the car some authority on the back side. Nissan seems to see my side of things seeing that the GTR, 350Z, G coupe, new G sedan all have exhaust tips that are significantly larger than exiting pipes they're affixed to. Also, AMG, BMW's M division, Lexus' F division, every gen of Vettes, Vipers, Porsche, and most every supercar have larger exhaust tips than the exiting pipes. Just like most aspects of the exterior of the car, it's styling cue to bring visual performance. Yes, they serve no performance value, but we're not driving purpose built race cars.

Well there you go, it is just for looks. Good job then. Not sure why it deserved so many pages of attention, but it looks good enough nevertheless. Make sure you post up your pics of your fake turbo scoop when you finish it!

My Butt dyno says different. I believe that I am getting another 20 or so at the wheels.

My fender vents are getting me another 20 so I am pretty happy.

Hmmmmm, maybe because it's a DIY and lots of people on this site feel that the stock exhaust tips are tiny on this car? As for your last comment, it's not like we're installing 5" tips on 1" exhaust pipes. There tips are a mere 0.8 larger in diameter than the exiting pipes. I guess by your rational then my car is completely riced out because it has a lot of little mods that do absolutely nothing for performance like the Nismo front bumper, painted sills, blacked out chrome trim and grill, clear corner lamps, larger wheels, and painted calipers. I'm such a ricer Have fun with your G that looks like tens of thousands of others on the road

Ricer!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW if you are looking into a CAI you should be aware that they are just for noise and will not do much else. Just remove your "POWER DUCT" to get the same sound for free.

Yeah I have been inquiring about the CAI and decided to avoid it because I am mostly looking for performance gain with no caveats. The CAI claims by the manufacturers say there is a 3-5hp gain though real people say no, but the biggest turn offs are the "whistle" of CAIs and the power loss in hot weather. I am in Houston - the heck with that!

I get my clear corners and aluminum pedal kits tomorrow. I also may get my headlights housings blacked out and the turn signal made clear as well. They are not poser mods, and my current clutch pedal is already partly falling off. Plus, the look better.

As for DaveB's last comment, I never used the word "rice". I was just yanking your chain a little to begin with(but still being honest). All those other "mods" you list are for looks. That is fine. I am doing similar. I never saw the tips as something to mod, but now I understand. Good job, I hope you enjoy them.. Now install something to make flames shoot out!
