Being that the HR y pipe is hard to find. What do you all think about extending the down tube part and shorten at the end of the stock y pipe to make it like the HR pipe?

This is a bad chop but hopefully u get where im going. Stock DE y pipe on left.

hmmm.. not so much.. the flow will be all wrong.. it's not just about the length.. it's also about the flow and the angle of the bends of the plumbing and WHERE THE BENDS ARE that make it what it is...

+1 on the bend angles. IMHO, the areas where the flex begins/ends seem to be crimped down smaller than the rest of the pipe.

I still contend that 1 or 2 of the aftermarket Ys should yield gains as long as the pipe size isn't too big and the collector size isn't too big.

Wish i had the resources to build one. I think if someone made a quality replica and priced them at $150 - they would sell. I'm surprised know one has attempted this.

The closest you'll get is the XYZ pipe by Motordyne. It incorporates a similiar design and focus on downpipe lengths. I haven't seen an aftermarket y-pipe that's designed like the HR y-pipe. But like Jeff said, there's no reason why it couldn't be done by an aftermarket company for cheap.

Although not exact, the Tanabe was fairly close in design but the collector was a bit further back. but the inlet/outlet sizes seem to be reasonable (aka not too big) and closer to the oem sizes that the HR Y has.

Yeah there is definitely an improvement with the smoother bends on the HR pipe. Its not just the length of the tubes that affects the performance.

Is there gaskets that you need to change when you upgrade to the hr?

Sorry if this was covered in previous post.

gaskets don't have to be necessarily changed if they are fairly new but mine were about 70000kms old so I replaced them

My gaskets had like 35-40K and I just reused them. No leaks here.

Ok so i just picked one up locally.. I can't tell if I got the right now.. The guy promised me its off an 08 Z and had the rest of the stock Z exhaust to go with it.. Just in person the flex things looked shorter.. however I measure all the diameters and the top part 2 prong parts measured at 2 inches.. and the bottom collector part measures at just over 2.5 inches.. The flex parts measure at 4 inches.. Did I get the right one? IDK, i'm sort of pissed thinking I got the wrong one.
