Yeah, I was thinking the smaller piping was to increase back pressure which in theory should increase low end torque, which makes sense. It also seems the longer down tubes help the revs under load.
I started the car up again before I left for work and it surely did sound more like the first gen coupe when you blip he throttle.....

I'm still not completely sold on the idea of running smaller pipes. MD did all sorts of testing during the XYZ pipe design and concluded running slightly larger piping was ideal. The 07/08 350Z y-pipe has fractionally larger piping than the DE y-pipe. There has to be a reason why Nissan choose to go with smaller piping on the G37/370Z y-pipes. My guess is to keep exhaust velocity high and to improve cat light off. We'll what happens when 4mermarine does his before and after dyno of the G37 y-pipe.
Got my G37 HR-yipe on and I love it. I actually honed out the down tube openings just a bit to smooth the transistion from the larger cat openings to the smaller downtube openings... Not idea if it did anything whatsoever, but in my mind I'm content.
Subtle increase in sound and smoother shifting. Worth it!

finally i fixed the damn stupid rattling noise from my back muffler. Apparently when the muffler guy weld an extension on the Z midpipe the muffler got moved to the side a little bit and hit the heat shield.
Here is the sound of Z HR-yp and Z midpipe with stock muffler

Good to hear, glad to help you out.
I just installed my hr y-pipe and after driving hard smells like something burning is this normal at first? smells like a cloth or paper i dunno. But i didn't see anything caught in it.
So I got the ypipe installed, and the exhaust seems alil louder. But I can really tell a difference from idle to about 3000rpms. It feels like the car accelerates from idle to 3k a lot smoother and quicker.
hearing some people scraping when lowered. You scraping at all? Picking this up tonight just hoping i will be fine when im lowered a good amount
i read that some of these people wit the hr y pipe are scraping when lowered. Im lowered a good amount and picking this up tonight. You scraping at all wit the tein springs? you have the z s/h tech or the g version?
The HR Y pipe takes the same place that the one you already have so there is no extra scrapping with the HR that what you would have with the non-HR when too low.
I just changed from the h-techs to the revised 350z springs, bout the same drop. No issues, and the z springs in my opinion are better.
