Alright guys, so I've had this "mod" on my car for almost a year now, yeah the slight difference in sound is kind of nice but the difference isn't huge and I think i'm ready to go for the full exhaust now. Have anyone had a consensus on what they believe to be the best sounding y-back exhuast to pair with this?

I recently started getting a weird exhaust rattle whenever my revs would drop to about 2200 RPM until they fell below about 1800. Took it into the dealership today for them to figure it out and the verdict is that the Y pipe is starting to go. Price to replace... get ready...

Part: $1100+
Labor: $200+

$1300+ for a stock DE Y-pipe installed... That might legally qualify as robbery. I even made the service rep re-state that the price was only for replacing the Y-pipe.

Needless to say I'm not going with that option. Everyone seems to be high on the HR Y-pipes, and if I can find one soon I'll go that route. I'm still pretty much an exhaust noob though, so I have a few questions.

Are the 3 Y-pipe gaskets easy for an independent shop to get? If those need to be replaced too I want to make sure it won't cost a lot on top of the pipe. Also, if I can't find an HR easily, what is the most comparable aftermarket? I'm still lost on what the best diameters are and I don't want to change the sound too much. Megan? M2? Nismo? Or just stick with HR?

Yeah, I went to the dealership and they were giving me a ridiculous price as well.. I think we'll have to wait and find an HR come around these forums. Best route is to look for an aftermarket because HR's are very RARE now adays. A question I have is, will the 370z Y-Pipe fit on a G35? Or will the whole exhaust of a 370z work on a G35 at all?

Are you serious??!? Wow! I just took my ride to the dealership today for similar noise (rattling upon acceleration). They told me that the Y Pipe would need to be replaced soon. While the car was on the lift, I had a chance to look underneath...and it appeared that the mesh fiber cloth thingy was torn/damaged. They quoted me $545+tax (parts & labor)...but then again, my ride is a 2003 G Coupe and your ride is newer, so the parts are likely to be different??

Really? Wow, what a disparity in pricing....unless there are regional differences!

I'll PM ya a question or two about this topic since you seemed well versed in it.

Yup, like $1150 for the part and $350 for labor (for something that takes 20 minutes to replace w/ a lift). I had him triple check the price and even double check the part # with the parts department. The local Nissan dealer gave me a quote similar to yours, poolshark, but my Infiniti for some reason is ungodly high.

An independent shop I called later cracked up when I told them that. They specialize in Zs and Gs so have a bunch of used Y-pipes on hand from installing aftermarket exhausts and will give me the best used one installed for $130! I think I'll go with them and save the $1370...

Hopefully they'll grease my clicking real axle for less than $300 too... hmm...

Are you sure its your clicking rear axle? Just a thought, I was bothered by this sound for ages until it was pointed out that at low rpms (2000-3000) the fan clutch engaging makes this noise....realized that's all it was.

Fan clutch? Not sure what that would be.

I'm guessing it's the rear axle TSB, but I could be wrong. Apparently my car was leased in FL before I bought it and the weather there causes this problem to pop up more. The noise is a very distinct click whenever I first accelerate or first decelerate at very low speeds (mostly parking lot, parking garage). It comes and goes so I don't want to pay $300+ to fix an occasional noise, but if this new shop will do it for cheap I'll have to see.

Man, if I can get 2 annoying noises fixed AND a sexy sounding Y-pipe I'm gonna be a happy camper.

It's most likely the fan clutch..I too drove myself crazy over the issue, had them grease the axle etc. Only happens at low speeds accelerating or decellerating (in which the engine fan clutch engages and clicks). Don't worry yourself.

I've seen someone post ID for the FX y-pipe at 2" and the connection to the midpipe at 2.5". Will this offer gains over the stock sedan t-pipe? I found one locally with a coupe midpipe for $90. Has anyone installed the FX y-pipe?
