I just finished installing mine tonight. Just wanted to say thanks to Deftronix for taking the time to post the pics on the first page. Made the install much easier. Total cost for my install was only about $18. I bought some cheap autolumination leds. Came out good though.

You'll have to install a relay with a switch.

you can always do what i did and install a switch~ you're basically using the same power line your cig. plug used, that way you can turn it on and off whenever. it's a very easy install~

Where did you purchase the ccfl tubes?

I actually did something similar with 4 12" white ccfl tubes.
You can get to these wires right at the BCM (in front of driver side door)
Heres a picture with the info u need (this is the connector furthest right):
Pin 1: Red/Black (+12v)
Pin 8: Purple/Red (-)

Its very nice to have them go on/off automatically. Good luck!

Here is the final result of my install:

Hey deftronix, nice post. I'm going to be doing the same thing for my next project. I am just finishing up a halo project using aac ccfl tubes but find that their tubes (for headlamps) are not sheathed like yours. Where did you get the tubes? Thanks.

Okay, I have been wanting to do this project for a WHILE now.

My question is...

1. Where can i get the correct CCFL tubes??
Are these the right ones? http://www.svc.com/clk12wt2.html

2. What if i buy the CCFL tubes and there are 2 inverters??

3. Do I splice the wires that are originally in the connector (red/purple wires) to the black and red and just tape them up with black electrical tape? And how to i go about doing this?

OK! So I'm not sure what to do next. I cut the wires from the pictures and connected the led wires. The LEDs turns on and work like they are supposed to.

HOWEVER they aren't as bright as they are supposed to be.

AND when I put neon lights to replace the LEDs, they didn't work at all.

Both the leds and neons where supposed to connect to the 12v via the cigarette lighter.

1. Was I supposed to cut the wires on the LEDs and put one on the negative and one on the positive?
2. Why won't the neons work when the LEDs did?
3. Am I supposed to use a inverter to channel more power to the lights?
4. Whats a inverter? and what kind am I supposed to use to power 2 10in neons and 2 6in LEDs?

As you can see from the video, the blue LEDs are automatically ON/OFF when I open/close the doors. I control the AUTO ON/OFF from the Dome Light switch. I also can turn them ON/OFF by pushing the left side dome light.

Seemless setup!!
Do you have any pics of how you wired it so the left dome light acts as a switch?

Thanks,

Thanks. After looking at it again I thought you might have soldered to the metal bars like that.

Great pic. Thanks again.

Okay, I've been thinking of doing something like this myself. I have an 06 Sedan, and rather than blue or white I'm thinking it would be better to try to color match the gauge illumination? So something more orange? Having not dug into this much I don't know if anyone makes orange CCFL's? I like the more diffuse light so would prefer CCFL over LED.
