I bought my car from a dealer as certifed used vehicle so I guess I had the extension...wasn't even aware LOL. Good thing I did cuz Mike told me the actuator fix costs $400-$500 I had to pay $50 deductible though.

I've got an 06' Coupe MT with 43k miles. Ive had my replacement Long Block VQ since 29k miles and I'm now noticing the OC issue once again. It isn't burning as much oil as it was with my original VQ, but if I take a 1000 mile road trip I'm fairly sure it will fail the test once again.

Has anyone had experience with their replacement VQ exhibiting the same issue? I would love to hear info on replacement VQ's that STILL burn oil.

Thanks!

I'm ~55Kmi, replacement at 28. My replacement was borderline fail during break-in improving to better than my original oil drinker, but always some OC and been holding steady since ~7Kmi. I know a few tips, especially with increased OC well after break-in. Just recently got mine to be even better than it's norm. Some I will mention, some not being proprietary. PM if interested.

My car consumed three-quarters of a quart in 1200 miles. (The oil only hit 1/4 of the dipstick marked line). According to the TSB, this is clearly in the "No Good" range.

My service rep tells me that they have revised their policy to only replace the engine when the car burns more than 1 quart every 1000 miles. Are they kidding me?

How did it jump from the 8mm mark to the 24mm mark all of the sudden?

This was a huge surprise, being that I drove quiet a bit to get to the most reputable dealership in Southern California. They have replaced countless of OC'd revup engines.

And here's the thing. It's not really my Service Rep's to blame. He has a great rep in the community. When I told him about the fact that my engine qualifies for a replacement according to their own TSB, he shows me an email from a corporate manager of the west regional office that states not to replace any engines unless they burn more than 1 qt per 1000 miles. (I ask for a copy of that email, which I did receive). I guess they expect your oil to be completely empty by the time an oil change is due.

I'm due back for another 1000 miles. But I'm also going to email/speak to corporate about this. They have to be kidding about this so-called new revision.

1 qt per 1000 miles is the industry standard, but that is some BS dude. Basically you are suffering because all of us got new engines on the house, its not right.

TSB states more than 1 quart per 3750 miles is in the No-Good range. I highly doubt that it jumped to 1 quart per 1000 miles. It just seems like someone at corporate is trying to pass this BS to the dealership level.

If I were burning 0.9 quarts ever 1k miles, and based on this supposed revision, my engine would be considered normal. Yet, at the 3750 mile mark, my car would only have 1.63 quarts left. That's no industry standard. I don't even think the car would get around the block with that little oil left.

I assume you meant to say the industry standard is 1 quart per oil change (greater than 3750 miles). (?)

Point being, for the VQ35, that's almost 4 times the "normal" according to the Infiniti manual and the Infiniti/Nissan TSB.

Before the TSB, it was 1qt/1000mi or worse before Nissan/Infiniti would even care.

I failed my oil consumption test last week and they want me to bring it in to take pictures for the assembly? Not sure I understand this. She mentioned the oil pan, spark plugs, etc.

It appears as though they are ordering a short block as the service tech indicate an engine and gasket. Assuming that is in reference to the head gasket. Will hopefully find out more tomorrow, but I think there is an updated TSB out there.

I have a 2006 G35 Coupe and I have had no problems with the oil consumption issue since I got the car @ 21,000 miles.

I just changed my oil yesterday (10-6-10) @ 44,500 miles and when I poured my old oil back into the 5qt container, it had a slight bit under 4 QTs in there. I was shocked.

I did notice my engine bay sounding a litter louder and wierder than usual but I thought that was due to how loud our transmissions are with the whole clutch chattering and all.

Anywho, I'm going to be monitoring it now and see much is eaten up in 500, then 1000, then 1500 miles.

Just thought I'd add to the thread.

^ To add to my previous post, In the TSB and mentioned in this thread, "long-block assembly" refers to shortblock + heads right?

This does not include the transmission I'm assuming, correct?
