well, I'm just under 800 miles into the OC testing and I am 6mm under on the stick. I'm going to drive it until I'm around 1400k or so and take it back to the dealership. I just want to get this test over with already!

So the dealer doesn't lock your dipstick? What exactly do they do to your oil system to prevent tampering?

The took a gold sharpie and marked my oil fill cap, oil drain plug, and oil filter to make sure that they don't get tampered with. No way in hell will I let them lock the dipstick! I'm checking that thing at least three times a week to make sure there is sufficient oil in there. The last thing I need is for my engine to sieze up while the kids are in the car or I'm on my way to work. I need to maintain a little bit of confidence/sanity while I'm driving due to this issue.

When i had my OC test done they took a metal twist tie looking thing and locked up my dipstick.

Nothing on mine, the TSB doesn't say anything of the such either.

Yeah, I'm hoping they don't do that...I'm paranoid about my engine and check the oil level all the time! I might have a panic attack if they lock it up on me...

I'm not a lawyer but I don't think they can legally lock up the dipstick. They can mark the oil cap, oil filter, and drain plug though. It's just a mark. If you tamper with it then you are looking at another OC test at the least. Your current test will be null and void. If the SM's at the dealership say they are going to lock it then call Infiniti Customer care and find someone there to talk to. Put the phone on speaker too! There is no way Infiniti would want people driving around, especially at highway speeds, with no oil in the car. The TSB even mentions checking the oil regularly. If at any point in the test you are below 24mm (L on dipstick) you should take it to the dealer ASAP.

My G35 in a 2004 and is apparently eating oil quickly. The car had 40,600 miles on it for it's latest oil change. The technician at PepBoys said that only 1 quart drained out. I haven't had the time to make an appointment with a dealership yet with my travels. The last oil change was around 36,000 miles. I did not know that this engine had such a bad consumption problem until I found this webpage (and another).

Is this a TSB recall for my 2004 or is it a 4 year/70k drivetrain warranty issue? I purchased it in early March of 2004, so I'm pretty sure my warranty is now up? Just want to see how well prepared I'll need to be when I take it to a dealer as far as TSB vs. warranty. I can actually smell oil burning while driving.

Thanks for the redirect. I must have clicked back on the wrong tab to view the wrong page. My dealer did not mention this problem to me when I complained about smelling the oil burning smell along with the transmission burning smelling really badly this past August. They replaced my transmission saying that that was the problem, but did not address the oil smell even though I asked them to check. They told me that they changed my oil at the same time, but I'm starting to think that they did not since it was not on the invoice and I wasn't charged for it.

I'd stay on them as long as you're not past 70K miles. Even though the TSB applies to revups, if you're burning enough oil to fall within the replacement range on that TSB chart, I don't see how they can refuse you a new engine.

I own a 06 G35 sedan with 6sp. I had low oil problems and at 18k miles, I went to Infiniti for an oil consumption test. I never had my oil changed by Infiniti due to it not being convenient. I have a friend who is a mechanic who did it and I kept receipts

The oil consumption test showed almost two quarts low after 1k miles. The service manager ordered the engine which should be arriving in 1-2 weeks.

I would have never known about the problem without this forum. I would have never seen the TSB without this forum. I just want to give everyone here a big heartfelt thanks. It is websites like this that can protect the little guy from corporations that seem to be unconcerned with the mistakes they make.

Meet too, thanks for sharing the TSB with everyone on this forum. Although Infiniti has been great to me for the past 8 years with our G20 and now my G35, it's great to have some ammo if you do need to go into battle. Each dealership is different. Luckily, my local dealership has been great.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but since this is such a common problem with the VQ motor's how will replacing the motor with another VQ solve the problem?
